Best meal out on a long while. Food was delicious and service absolutely excellent. Andy found us a table even though we'd mistaken the booking day and they were full. James was one of the best waiters I've come across. Well done to all the staff who performed brilliantly on al stressful busy mothers' day and definately went the extra mile for all the customers.

This is the second week I've eaten here due to working away and I have to say, it's top notch. The food is always piping hot and well-prepared, it's not too busy, and it seems to be run like a very tight ship. The team are friendly and welcoming which is always a relief for someone who dines alone and is away from home. Thanks for the great service and I look forward to eating here again next time I leave Yorkshire for Scotland ☺

The staff here are just the best. Totally loved Stephen (Sid). He knew all the answers to everything we asked and got a few things put through the kitchen special order for us. I would definitely recommend going here, there's not many places to sit down in the area so pop in if you're passing and give it a try.

Front of door staff was very lethargic about his job in the full time we where there he did not smile the food was very bland and very greasy as you can see from the last photo there was alot of food wastage there was alot of fat on the meat and the eggs where half cooked however the other waiter had a smile on his face and smiled the full time back and forth asking if he could do anything for us he is in the right job the juice was flat and when I asked the non smile one for a straw it looked as if I had just asked him to win the lottery for me wouldnt go back wasnt worth the money! however the other staff member deserves to be at the front door I can see him going places maybe even up to management

Turned up at the Dovecote without pre-booking and the lovely manager managed to find us a table....thank you ! Our assigned waitress was extremely nice and very friendly and nothing seemed a bother for all that she never seemed to have minute to turn around. It had been 20+ years since we had last visited as we now live in Inverness therefore surroundings has changed but still a very spacious restaurant and Covid regulations were strictly adhered to. On entering from the carpark you could easily get in with a wheelchair as it is all level. However, once inside, the various areas were only accessible via a few stairs. There were a small number of tables on the ground floor that is visible from the entrance so there may have been more. Unfortunately we were disappointed in the food. The Doom Bar Pie had an overpowering taste of onion which detracted from the taste of the stew and the fried haddock still had skin on which was unexpected and although the waitress apologised for the haddock (we did not complain about the pie) it wasn't her fault, we just did not expect it. When we stayed locally we frequented the Dovecote regularily so this was a "passing through" visit only and therefore not likely to visit in the forseeable future
