Had a nice experience very comfortable and peaceful remote place

Lovely B&B with wonderful rooms and breakfast. Deer coming right up to the room. Food is really excellent.

Alas there is no longer a high end restaurant attached, and the alternative is down in the town which, although nearby, needs more time to pass muster.

'We dined here in June and really enjoyed the evening, it's a somewhat quirky little place but we loved the off beat character of the old home, staff and whole dining experience. The food was simply sensational and worthy of their Mich star...bravo.

Having read many fantastic reviews, my partner and I were very much looking forward to our stay at The Albannach and, unfortunately, we were bitterly disappointed. We stayed in the Loft Suite – a nice room but with some mould in the shower, caps falling off in the bathtub and a used tissue down the side of the bed. The heating didn’t seem to be controllable in the room and it was therefore far too hot and stuffy. Nothing too serious but not what you expect from a room that goes for around ÂŁ200 a night. The conservatory was a bit tired looking and the dining room was very dark and dingy. On arrival we were expecting an afternoon tea, which turned out to be a mere cup of tea and slice of cake. Shortly after we ordered a glass of wine and a bottle of beer which took 40 minutes to arrive (we were the only guests there yet) and the drinks were then spilled on us.As for the meal - the canapĂ©s were lovely, as was our first course and dessert, however the four dishes in between were a little lack lustre in comparison to other Michelin starred meals we’ve had. The fish cake was under seasoned as was the accompanying cucumber dressing; the veg accompanying the venison was a strange mixture of underdone and complete mush; and the mushroom and red wine risotto was practically tasteless. The wine list was extensive but mostly redundant as the majority were marked ‘N/A’. The dining room was small and intimate with only 10 diners and, since there was no music playing, severely lacked atmosphere. The waiters really only brought and cleared plates as we poured our own wine and water all night. The meal took around 3 hours, which we didn’t mind, but since there was no option to eat before 8pm (and service was late) we missed out on coffees.Despite these issues, we were most disappointed in the customer service. We had heard rave reviews about Lesley and Colin’s 'first class' hospitality, however Colin didn’t make an appearance at all and Lesley only appeared once we had paid the bill and were walking out the door. When Lesley asked how we enjoyed our stay we answered honestly and said that it had been nice but we had been a little disappointed considering how expensive it was – just over ÂŁ400 for one night. ‘A little disappointed’ was a polite understatement. Lesley then blamed our taste on not enjoying the meal claiming that we “were in a room full of people who absolutely loved it”. She offered nothing in the way of an apology apart from an insincere “sorry about that” as she turned her back and walked away.Had Lesley been a little more gracious we would have left feeling that the evening had been nice but not worth the money spent. Instead we left feeling patronised and ripped off. We are great lovers of good food of all types and know what to expect from a Michelin starred restaurant but we were treated like children who wouldn’t know any better (we’re both in our late twenties). Our experience may have been an unfortunate one off and our feedback might have been treated with more respect had we been 20 years older. Needless to say we won’t be back.

Amazing little hotel in one of the most beautiful corners of Scotland (and therefore the world!) The dinner was perfect - gourmet without the fuss, just like the laid back hospitality. But the highlight for me was the cooked breakfast. I'm still thinking about it almost 2 years later.

I visited here about 5 years ago and stayed for 2 nights. Great gourmet food cooked by extremely nice people and a great setting, pretty rooms. Not cheap, but worth it.
