La Mirage in Highland

Personally I felt quite uncomfortable there. The food was fine, if a little pricey; the chips were good. Our well-behaved toddler was watched like a hawk by the staff and we were told quite bluntly that he needed to leave alone a lobster pot that he was very interested in. As we got ready to go we felt interrogated about the plastic flowers on the table which our toddler had also been playing with. They really didn’t seem to like children, or at least our well-behaved child. The whole atmosphere was just a bit strange.

Just finished eating here (8/04) the food was fantastic, the best salt and pepper squid I've ever had, and the fish was melt in your mouth, soft, light, crispy just all round beautiful. Even the chips were fantastic, crispy outer and fluffy centre. The portions are very generous which isn't a bad thing at all so well worth the money for such quality food. I just wish I lived more locally to eat here more often

Really quirky little restaurant. The menu is some and mainly fish and chip orientated. Don't let this put you off though as if you want to eat in Helmsdale then this is certainly the best place to go. No need to book so that helps. The service is quick and very kind indeed. Lovely staff and the owner is very helpful. All round a good experience.

I am Coeliac and find it difficult to find places to eat out in. We stumbled upon this little gem and it’s awesome!!! Spotless, everything fresh not from the freezer and has a great menu for Gluten-free as well as for everyone else. If you’re in the area I’d advise NOT to miss it ❤️

Perfect for a quick stop during the nc500. Good food, nice staff and clean.

Ate here during our NC500 trip, it was the only eating place open, & as has been said the decor is a bit dated/quirky, so our expectations were low. However- I can honestly say the "small" fish & chips probably tasted better than any other I've had! The welcome from the owner was warm & the atmosphere was lovely as all the other diners were similarly enjoying their mealsA "must have" addition to your NC500 experience (&you can park your campervan overnight at the harbour for a donation to RNLI!)

Everything from the welcome, attention from staff and service is excellent.... except the food which is AMAZING. The batter on the fish is so perfect, light, crisp and delicious.

Best Fish and Chips in Scotland.Had a small fish tea so there was plenty room for a Mars bar Meringue.A must stop when you pass through Helmsdale!

Stumbled upon this place by accident due to our usual stopping place being closed and had a Fantastic experience! Very memorable and quitky decor! was welcomed within seconds by the staff despite her being in the back when we arrived, seated promptly, clear instructions for covid measures were in place and inforced and the food portions were exceptional for the extremely reasonable prices! Would definately come again!
