Macari's Fish and Chip Shop in Highland

The portions are huge. I'd happily pay half and get half the food but they sell two of everything without asking. The food was nice but the owners obviously take offense when you post the food is nice.From the reply I understand the other comments where people comment stating 'rude arrogant owners'.You should be ashamed the amount of food that must be wasted due to your greed for money. Obviously saying your products are nice is offensive to you. £25 for a chippy for 2 people is pathetic you must be secret oil giants.

Very oily rendition of fish and chips.Was really excited to eat here as I read the shop comments here that they use local top quality fish, fry them fresh to order, and make their chips fresh everyday.It was definitely made to order as I could hear them fry it while I waited, issue was that it was extremely oily. Both the chips and the fish. Drenched in oil and soggy. I ate it almost as soon as I left the shop so it wasn’t from being placed in a box for too long.Other than vinegar and salt, extra cost for condiments as well.Really wanted to love it. Perhaps others had better luck.

Great service, and a delicious - and generous- portion of haddock and chips. Fresh made while we waited. Oh, and the biggest pickled onion!!

Display offers Haddock, Cod, Halibut and Monkfish. Seems it doesn't matter what you order and pay for, they all come to the counter as a fish supper. I ordered a haddock supper, and the tiny fish I got in my box was no more a haddock than I am! Nor was it cod or halibut. Often chippers will sell whiting as haddock because the general public never know the difference, and it increases their profits. This fish wasn't even whiting. An educated guess, I'd say it was North Atlantic hake, and it certainly wasn't fresh caught.If you say you're not knowingly mis-selling to your customers, then your fish merchant is mis-selling to you, and you should educate yourselves on the product you're buying.Worst fish supper I've ever had, fish was cold by the time I got back to my car, the batter wasn't cooked all the way through, the strong smell/taste you get when eating hake wasn't pleasant, or expected and the fish didn't get finished. The only saving grace was the chips were good. Won't eat here again.Thanks for your response, if you are the owner, you'll be fully aware there's no verbal communication, you're operating a ticket system for orders. Granted your shop was busy, and I waited in the que while the 6 people in front of me ordered various items, 3 of them ordering cod & chips, all of which came to the counter as fish suppers same as mine did.Perhaps you should re-read my review and edit your ridiculous response to save further embarrassing yourself. I accept I may be wrong in guessing it was hake, but I'm certainly right it was no haddock.

Friendly, quick (freshly cooked) service - portion size was excellent and very tasty. We had haddock/chips & monkfish/chips.Importantly, they put the salt and vinegar on the right way around.

Ordered 2 large haddock, fantastic fish, perfect. Unfortunately asked for salt n vinegar, none on! Asked for a receipt to be put in , no receipt! so I can claim company expenses, Still 5 stars for the food quality though.

Absolutely stunning fish n chips!We were lucky enough to get the monk fish cheeks. Melt in your mouth! Best chippy on the west coast!

We ordered 2 x half fried pizza super with curry sauce and gravy (pizza dipped in gravy is great). Really decent chippy and doesn't feel super greasy like some. It loses 1 star for the price - could get this back home (in the centre of Edinburgh) for between £8.50-£10.50. This cost £16.
