The Bistro Poolewe Hotel in Highland

Stayed at the hotel for a few lovely nights in clean rooms with comfortable beds. The breakfast is delicious and at supper I would recommend the fish and chips! Our room overlooked the gorgeous loch Ewe which we were able to do mackerel fishing in

We stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The room was clean and comfortable, the food excellent, the team extremely friendly and it was a joy to find Timothy Taylor's Landlord on tap.

Stayed here for one night whilst touring the NC500 on our motorbikes.I don't recall any of us having Red faces as mentioned by previous review though. Room was really clean and comfortable, bed comfortable and shower excellent.Evening meal wasn't the best but edible, more puff pastry than steak pie. Staff were all friendly and polite.Breakfast following morning was much better though.Great location and surrounding views stunning.

Unlike many of the other reviewers I stayed in the hotel, though only for one night. The experience was a game of two halves…The good stuff:The service from the bar and restaurant staff was outstanding and we couldn’t have been better looked after for dinner or breakfast.We liked that the hotel makes sure there is space for residents to have dinner. I appreciate that isn’t welcome for non-residents but with so few choices in the area it is really important here.The quality of the food was high - we enjoyed fresh scallops (a special on the menu) as well as several other items which were tasty and well presented.The bedroom was spacious (from the plan on the door room 1 appeared to be the largest and included a double and single bed).The bed was comfy and we had a good sleep.The not so good stuff:The bedrooms have an old fashioned feel but I should emphasise that they are spotlessly clean.The toilet and shower room was small. Again, clean and not a deal breaker.The lock on the bedroom door was a nightmare. It is a traditional lock with a key and the deadbolt caught on the faceplate every time we left the room. A couple of minutes of fiddling later and it would lock. I can’t believe were the first people to have the problem.But the worst part was the shower. I’ve used many showers in hotels over the years and have always managed just fine. Imagine turning on the water and then as soon as the temperature is adjusted to make it warm the water stops running. And then multiple attempts later we failed to get warm water from it. In the end it wasn’t a big deal since we were heading home the same day but the attitude from the gentleman behind the front desk was unhelpful to say the least. He checked it while we had breakfast though didn’t tell us until check out. My wife asked if he had looked at it while we were leaving and his response was that the shower was just fine. He then demonstrated that the shower head had to be removed from the holder and held below the taps to get hot water to run. All of this was completely unnecessary - we can’t have been the first with this shower problem and even so it wouldn’t have taken a second to pop into breakfast to explain how to make it work. (And for what it is worth we could hear people showering happily in the room next door so it may just have been our room)It wasn’t great value for £170 since we didn’t require the third bed in the room but with a limited number of rooms on the NC500 I can’t blame the hotel for pricing at a level the market will pay. The food and drinks on the other hand were good value.

The Poolewe Hotel bar has an eclectic mix of residents, from west coast 500 red faced bikers to young farmers and holiday goers. We had hoped to eat in at the hotel restaurant (which had plenty of seats available), but we were informed that only residents could eat in at the restaurant. This was to be the start of a terrible experience.Poolewe is a small place. Alternative eat out options at that time were not possible. So, we accepted the bar staff’s offer to order a takeout from them instead. This was a mistake.We ordered our food and paid at the bar. Propping up the bar were a line Barbour jacket wearing men trying to flirt with the new barmaid. We were directed away from waiting at the bar to a bench where we were had to sit and wait for our takeout. This bench evoked the same feeling I had while sat outside the headmaster’s office ... but I was on holiday optimistic and undeterred.After the 8.5 hour journey to Poolewe I was famished. I was excited for the takeout despite receiving my dinner in polystyrene containers. In such a beautiful place as Poolewe I was hopeful that its contents would be delicious. We took our takeout and left for out B&B to eat it.What happens next can only be described like some kind of trauma. I opened the box of my lentil chili only to be met with the scent of what I would struggle to describe as anything other than manure. I have no idea what you would have to do to a lentil chili to make it smell that putrid. I can only assume the chef managed to create this masterpiece with his/her/they own fair hands. It was impossible to eat, let alone be in the same room as.Needless to say I ate another cereal bar and went hungry and indignant to bed.Poolewe beautiful place with amazing people just for god sake save yourself and don’t eat at the hotel!

Room was really clean and comfortable. A little on the small side but had everything we needed. Shower was nice and powerful with plenty of hot water.Great bar with a large selection of beers, wines and spirits. Staff were really good, and really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.Evening meal was good, both had steak and ale pie.Breakfast was superb, now a fan of tattie scones!

Good food (the fish and chips were excellent and the salmon and prawn salad was generous) at a decent price, served briskly and politely. Only downsides were the rather dull and uninspiring decor and the raucous crowd of locals at the bar who were positively deafening.

A pleasant 1 night stay whilst doing the NC500 route. A warm welcome, clean room and good food. Would definitely return if (when!) I do the route again.

A pleasant stay here while doing the NC500 but unfortunately the breakfast wasn't that great as we both place an order for breakfast and never received it. We told the manager/ owner when we went to pay and all he said was I'm sorry but I will look into it.no discount was given. But hey he is in a prime position with his hotel been on the NC500 route he will get plenty of trade . Not a happy customer when you don't get what you have paid for.

My bf and I showed up without a booking on the hope to get some lunch at 2pm on a Monday back from the NC500 and we were kindly welcomed even though it was almost the end of the kitchen time for lunch.I had the vegan burger with vegan cheese option and it was well cooked and my boyfriend had the beef one. Both burgers, salads and chips were very good. Also had a pint and cappuccino. Lovely time there and the staff was checking on us and being super nice to us.Could do with a bit of music but it seems like a very busy place on rush time so would probably not be able to hear it.Great following of the guidelines as well.
