The Cairn Hotel Restaurant in Highland

Really nice burger and chips and ale served by friendly staff on a wooden table next to a warming log fire across the room from a window which let the cold wintry light play across the homely Scottish rug.

Went here twice while staying in a nearby lodge, my partner and I tried a few different things on the menu, all really tasty and fresh. Food comes quickly and the staff are all lovely and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Went here for dinner 3 times as we were staying down the road. The roast was the highlight as was the sticky toffee pudding. Very large portions of all meals. Lovely with the fire on in winter and staff very welcoming.

Popped in for a birthday dinner and the restaurant did not disappoint. We all had fish and chips. The chips were beautifully crispy and not oily. The batter on the fish was delicious and the fish was fresh and flaky. We all are until we were uncomfortable because we didn't want to waste a single mouthful. The service was also friendly and welcoming. An evening well spent

Picked this because we were staying local. Called ahead and they were happy for a table of 2 to just turn up. Nicely greeted and sat, with drinks served at the table. Good selection of beers and ales. There was a shortened menu for Sunday as they were serving Sunday lunch. There was a bit of a wait after ordering, but this is a good thing because I felt they were actually cooking the food, rather than warming up preprepared. I had the venison (quite expensive) which was really well cooked, slightly pink, vegetables really well cooked. The mash could have been better, slightly watery, possible overcooked and allowed to steam off before mashing, also needed butter. Partner had the roast of the day (good value) which today was gammon, really nice size and well cooked, again nice veg and yorkie. Obviously used by locals too. Easy to recommend if you are in the area.

Sunday roast Beef lovely! Haggis definitely belongs in a lasagna, if you don't believe me try it. Scrummy puddings too. Great service and very warm and friendly.

We visited the Cairn on Wednesday eve after being recommended by a local. The bar staff and waitress were friendly and the pub itself was cosy. We had the haggis bonbons and the soup for starters both were quite nice. For the main we ordered the chicken burger and the haggis lasagne. This was where we were let down.Our mains were accidentally given to the wrong table across from us and left there for a while before the mistake was realised then taken back to the kitchen and then the same plates fetched out 30 seconds later, and given to us as if nothing had happened.The policy on plate touching contamination really should be better in covid times and left us really disappointed, they should have at the very least explained the situation and asked if it was ok with us. It just felt really dishonest and unsanitary, you really dont want to pay for a meal that someone else has touched and had at their table!We ordered desserts and they were just awful, the pecan pie was stone cold soft pastry with a couple of millimetres of soggy filling and the crumble was just stewed apple with ground almonds on top, both overpriced for what thet were.Very disappointing visit, I wouldn't recommend based on our experience.

Another fabulous meal followed by an awesome pavlova pudding. Make sure to stop here and taste their culinary delights

Great pub for a drink & some food, doing simple things well. Open fire a huge plus on a cold night . Have to say it was a particularly welcome discovery after several nights struggling to get a table in Aviemore where even in October they don't seem to have the capacity to cope with the number of visitors

Excellent 'old school' Scottish Highland hotel that would benefit from a cosmetic spruce up. Staff were really friendly, excellent food and really good value for money. Would definitely stay again the next time we're visiting the Highland wildlife park.
