Quirky pub/Hotel, but gets very busy. Visited on a wet Monday in late June and it was almost packed.0 This must surely be due to passing coach tours. But hardly a table left.Only had time for bowl of soup and a coffee before travelling on. Soup was very good, coffee could have been warmer.Staff were helpful & very efficient ... I guess they've had plenty of practice organising tourists over the years.Some would say the interior is a bit dingy others (including me) would say it's cozy/convivial though pretty dark - almost couldn't read a menu! Stone tiled floors, wood paneling, alcoves ... all very atmospheric.Like almost every establishment in the area, they've also got an extensive range of whisky - its not Scotland if they didn't.

Lovely inside, if a little dark, but it's part of the character and age of the place.Lovely food, possibly the best fish and chips we have ever had!!! Plus the pudding was awesome. Efficient friendly service, good selection of local beers. Would definitely recommend.

We just came back from a two week trip around Scotland and were lucky enough to stay for a night at the George. I wish it had been longer. The staff are amazing - warm, welcoming, and helpful at every step. The rooms were a great classic style and very comfortable. Spent some time in the restaurant where the food was fantastic. They also have one of the better whisky lists I've seen anywhere with by far the best pricing I've ever seen. I managed to have a few rarer and expensive drams for a fraction I'd pay elsewhere. When we come back to Scotland, I know where I'll be staying for a night or tw. If you get the chance you should check out the hotels pub as well, great atmosphere and place to finish the day off.

This was my second stay at the George , the first time was approx 15 years ago and I would have to say that it is as fantastic now as it was then. The staff are so friendly , food amazing , accommodation is lovely and pet friendly which made my trip even more special. I’m planning to return in July. If you haven’t tried the Sunday Snug deal then I would highly recommend it. One of the best hotels in Scotland !!!

We were in a room in "The first house", across a small courtyard at the back of the hotel, and these rooms look new and are extremely well finished. Restaurant was very busy, but there was plenty of space for the tables. Food was good value, and obviously popular with locals and visitors.

A time warp hotel, I first visited in 89, it's been through a major renovation since but has retained its 19th century charm and eccentricity. Good food, good bar, good breakfast and comfortable rooms furnished with antique furniture. It's a very busy local hotel and well known to those who travel regularly so booking for meals is essential.

We had heard great things about this hotel but we were a bit disappointed in some things. Firstly the positives...nice, warm greeting at reception, easy check in and into our room. Room was nice and fresh... bed comfortable, just a little stuffy and l could not adjust the radiator so we kept windows open in room and bathroom but still not much air. Only one very small chair to sit on. We had dinner in the hotel and on the whole the food was nice but we felt the choice was a wee bit limited on the evening menu. We enjoyed what we chose. Drinks were a fair price as well. Entertainment was good and a nice atmosphere in general. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful.The breakfast was not so good....the food was lukewarm and bacon hardly cooked....you make your own toast on a hopeless machine that takes 3 or 4 goes to even lightly brown....good choice of items but not very well cooked...maybe lying in a hotplate?After we were seated awaiting breakfast l noticed what looked like ketchup stains on the wall beside me....l pointed it out but it didn't seem to matter? We were not offered another table so just put up with it....a bit off putting.The staff work very hard and always with a smile and there were only two of them serving breakfast on a busy service....so we chose not to complain about food or dirty wall.Maybe the pandemic has had an effect on much of the hospitality industry but we were a bit disappointed with parts of our stay, and it's a while since we have had a break. Maybe things will improve.

The reason this does not get 5 stars from me is the fact that they still have the same menu from years ago. Come on, put something new on! We've eaten everything over again but love coming to the pub, but need new things on the menu and not just a couple of specials on the board.

My husband & I only dined at the hotel on the 04/02/22. We would highly recommend it. It was busy, so would advise booking a table. The food was tasty, well presented, & plentiful. The service & friendliness from our waitress Robyn & the manager who found us a better table without us asking was excellent. A couple entertained with folk songs. A great & positive experience.
