The Old Mill Restaurant in Highland

I rate 2 stars only for the place. The place where the restaurant is located is amazing. The atmosphere inside is spectacular! But that was the only plus during our visit. We have ordered 2 steaks, 2 risottos with fish, 1 butternut squash and sweet potato soup, salad and sweet potato fries, and drinks. We also have 2 desserts. Our bill was £133. Steaks were cold, risottos were ok but I have tasted much better food for less money. Risotto didn’t have enough flavour in it. Salad was good. The soup was alright but too fatty and again Taste could be better. In regards with the service - we barely had any. I have asked for water refill 2 times and then the server brought it in a dirty glass, no one came to ask if everything was alright with our meals after the food within the short time the food was served. Although we had something to say about it. The server asked how was everything only after he brought the receipt and then we have mentioned that steaks were cold. We have never received spoons for desserts and couldn’t get the server to get us a few. As a result of that I had to get them myself. We were given 1 child menu but no crayons. After I found a server to ask if they have crayons for the child menu, she said no. But later the hostess brought us a pack. I would say that coming to such place I would expect a more attention to the table than we have received. Sorry, I have been working in the restaurants all my life and I know how it should be therefore I am critical to the level of service we had received. I would not come back for food and service and would not recommend restaurant. But sitting in the bar and having only drinks would be nice as the atmosphere of the place is charming.

I visited the Old Mill hotel for four nights. Of course I visited the restaurant nearly every day. The food is very tasty and the prices are fair. I also enjoyed the huge choice of different drafted beer.

The food is excellent. To expand on that, the menu has diminished a little in the past couple of years, but I get that there's some safety in doing the classics really really well. And maybe there's less freedom that comes with being part of a big chain. Each course was generous though, well seasoned, well balanced. Dessert is well thought out giving you something memorable to finish off an evening. It's all well priced, not to the level where you pay a fortune and get nothing, or pay very little and get food from a packet and a microwave, the perfect blend of quality and quantity that genuinely means you can't finish it, but have to take it home for one, last, bite.

The staff are friendly and helpful. Technical issues had hit them the weekend we visited and they just got on with things, always smiling. I heard some complaints about the roast dinners, but we had a mixed grill and vegan burger and both were really lovely. The uneaten meat was wrapped for us to give our dogs a nice treat.

Had a lovely evening, service was a bit slow but wasn't a problem as we were happy to sit a chat. Waitress was new but very friendly and served us with a smile all night. Food was good and nice ambience. Would recommend.

Lovely setting for our reunion dinner. Found the food overall okay. My Hunters chicken was dry, the bacon crispy and the sauce was stuck to the serving dish. Things that were ordered in advance were not available on the night. Only one real ale available at the bar.However, a fantastic plus for the venue is the great staff and accommodation was good.

One of my favourites pubs in the area! I love to have the Rosemary & Garlic Camembert for two, with a good beer, and enjoy the backyard.

I travel from Somerset to stay at this highly recommended tavern that has the advantage of being on the Cask Marque AleTrail.The added attraction is to actually meet someone for the first time, that I've been communicating with for months. So, a salubrious venue to impress and influence was essential.The choice was superb. As the name implies, The Old Mill is a converted watermill, situated on the River Sowe. When the building was a working mill, a woman, was said to have been trapped and drowned under the wheel, she haunts the buildings.The place is old and has history, possibly as far as 1086. Even so, recorded in 1545, Francis Goodere owned a mill called ‘Overcorne Myll’, which probably stood on this site.I stayed in room 5 a spacious twin bed with a connection door to room 6. An ideal choice, if ever there was a need to say "Yes dear, of course my secretary has a separate room"A pleasant outlook from French style windows.The evening meal went down well with my guest, only mentioning the chicken in the Caesar Salad was a little dry. This did not detract from the evening however, the well chilled Giotto Inzol and the superbly conditioned Abbott ale saw to that.Breakfast - The pubs version of the FEB (they call it something else) is one of the best I've ever had anywhere. A real FULL English Breakfast. You probably won't want to eat again until evening.The staff were agreeable and quite clearly customer focused. The whole stay, highly recommended.

We had a really enjoyable meal this eveningThe young waitress was really lovely, friendly and very happy to helpThe covid secure measures put into place are both practical and pragmatic, we felt safe but not like they were over the top, just right!It is Friday so cocktails are 241 which is great!Food was really delicious, if you could give 4.5 we would of done but to reach a 5 the salt and pepper squid could of done with being a slightly bigger portion! Husbands starter, the parfait was really yummy..and the mains were fab!Likewise for the 5 we were sat in the main restaurant which isn't as comfy as the bar areaThe belly pork wasn't available 🙃but the seafood grill was deliciousTotal bonus you can use your tesco points here too!!We really had a very nice evening and will be returning so definitely recommend 👌

Had a lovely time here. It was a last minute booking for a Sunday evening and luckily tables were available. The staff follows Covid Protocol and guided us to the right table. We picked few cocktails m, some of them were exceptionally good and rest were good. The food was delicious and quantity was accurate. I will go again. Last but not the least their staff were courteous and helpful.
