Rooms very spacious and well equipped. Breakfast excellent and staff friendly. Would recommend.

Warm and comfortable. A little dated perhaps but I'd use again without hesitation.

Excellent staff, very clean and tidy hotel. Meal was good and well prepared. Rooms were good size, well presented and ventilated. The shower lacked decent pressure though this may have been as I was on top floor. The toilet lacked a roll holder. I would use again!

The menu was good but of the two meals that was ordered, one of them was poor in content while the other was adequate for the price. The decor is dull and cold in appearance. It's a pity that there is nothing bright and pleasant in the dining room. Perhaps an interior designer would help to make the room more inviting to dine in.

Very dull atmosphere, not the best taste in music playing in the background.Food not great, I had the Salmon dish, bland but edible and my partner had the fish, they said it was fresh but it definitely wasn't, so bland it had to be sent back, reordered the burger and he said it was much better. Staff doing what they can but very empty place for a Saturday night, don't recommend. Sorry.

Went for a meal and found very limited starters and Deserts. Main was nice but little bland. Only had 1 draft beer which was also disappointing. However the staff were very polite and friendly.

Very nice staff (the only reason this is not a 2* review) and nice hotel. The food was not up to the standard of the price and although edible was not good value for money. The Halloumi fries were particularly disappointing and I'm sure I can buy the same ones from Sainsburys for £3 for a pack of 12.

3.5 and a half stars. Accommodation was pretty good and clean but a bit dated. Food was poor, fish and chips from frozen! You could do better than that! Staff were nice if a little slow but that added to the charm of being in a small town in Scotland.

Needed a ground floor room so was given room 2 of the annex, room ok but you had to squint to see the 17inch telly. They had put 2 single bed together, so they were out of since withe the headboards and the bed side lighting. You nearly fell out of bed just trying to switch the lights off. Shower curtain was too short and very basic, stuck to you while showering, no where to place your toiletries in the shower. Shower very dated. No rails to place your towels on. No cabinet to put your toiletries in. View from the window was looking onto the rubbish dump for unwanted doors and signage. You could hear each night rubbish being put into the bins as the lid slammed down. You could hear people showering, the extractor fans, in the other rooms, and people walking in the rooms above. Breakfast you only got 1 chipolata for what they called a sausage. Disappointed and not worth the £114 per nightDinner menu not very interesting and pricey. Staff were friendly.

Very nice hotel within a listed building. Room and bathroom clean and comfortable and well maintained. Meals can be eaten in the bar area or restaurant and although the menu isn't extensive the meals I tried were all enjoyable, although the sticky chili chicken will numb your lips for a while. Breakfast again is simple and tasty with my only gripe really being on the numbers of staff who were all helpful but it could take a while to get served etc. I do feel I may be being a little harsh here. All in all I would recommend the Royal and will probably stay again.
