Lovely place with great food but sadly closed for the whole 2021 season. Hopefully it will reopen in 2022.

After really nice starters (chowder and local fried fishballs) we tried some fish, which was better than average, but not as good as starters. The service was excellent. This restaurant could however do much more, if it relocated into some bigger space with A/C - the air was very heavy at the end of the evening.

My long anticipated visit to this restaurant was a bit of a let down, unfortunately.Service was fine but not particularly welcoming and the food was a little overpriced for what it was.Being in an adventurous mood I opted for the lamb dish that came served in a hollowed out melon.. interesting enough, but a real pain to eat. Most of our party went for the fish pie which was basically a meagre serving of filling hidden under a ludicrously oversized and overcooked piece of pastry.I wasn't able to get a table at this place the last time I was in Stromness, which probably added to my interest in checking it out this time, but I won't be returning whenever I'm there next.

Excellent fish chowder, but both seafood mains not fresh. Asked specifically about whether the fish was fresh and assured that it was. On that basis ordered the Queen scallops and monkfish and the cod. Both overcooked and none of the ingredients had any taste left.Disappointing as there were other things on the menu that probably were good if they had been straight with us.Three stars as the meals did not represent value.

Excellent food, lovely atmosphere. Cannot fault the place. Booking well in advance is advisable... Very advisable.

Unlucky night… or overrated? We were thrilled about dining in a Michelin rated restaurant , a hidden gem in little Stromness! But perhaps we had too high expectations… because except for food, everything else was rather inadequate…Starting from the BOOKING: you must phone them. But… if you’re living in another country?!Or you can write on their Fb page, and BE VERY PATIENT FOR AN ANSWER…DIRECTIONS once in Stromness: ??? We had the chance that two locals accompanied us there, thank you guys.Restaurant SIGN(S): CONFUSED…Interiors: quite pleasant. Unfortunately, however, VERY NOISY.But over now the commiserations… the SERVICE: to be honest, they were more than KIND, profusely apologizing for the food delay (we were booked in)… for MORE THAN ONE HOUR!!!Unfortunately when the FOOD finally came, it was GOOD, yes… but not so outstanding to make us forget the (too) long WAIT. And the hefty bill…Just an unlucky night? Who knows...?Maybe we’ll give them a second chance, one day…

I've lived in stromness for 24 years and I'm ashamed to say that last night was my first ever visit to the Hamnavoe... The food and service were brilliant. In my 24 years in Orkney I have never tasted a better meal. Fantastic!
