Helgi's in Orkney Islands

Excellent food, nice drinks, but more important: amazing staff. Very friendly and ready to think out of the box. We had not reserved, so we had to sit at the bar for our dinner … until a person sitting at a table said that he would prefer to sit at the bar for his beer. The staff immediately realised that we might want to swap. I love it when the staff in a pub is attentive!

Popped in for a meal whilst staying overnight in Kirkwall. Cab driver recommended Helgi’s was not disappointed. Great food and friendly service. Would highly recommend a a visit if visiting Kirkwall.

We had lunch here but the menu is the same regardless of the time of day. Nice little place with quite a Viking theme to it. The food is tasty but the menu a bit standard and portions on the small side, especially given the prices. Staff were lovely and welcoming though.

Great food and drinks. Fantastic burgers. Always well recommended and a great place to go for a catch up with friends over a meal.

Emailed to book a table in advance, would highly recommend doing this as they get fully booked. We arrived a bit early so ended up having a drink at the bar, that wasn't an issue and they added it to our final bill.I tried the salt and chilli squid for a starter and then the haggis burger for main, it was really tasty and filling. Although the view overlooking the harbour is stunning, sadly we were at the back of the room so couldn't see it but it's in a great location. Free parking is also available just outside.

Good food and service. The veggie burger was not the best but their stout recommendation was spot on. Portion size to price, starters were on the pricy side.

Looks small but there's seating upstairs. Menu full of tempting food but settled for the special - crab linguine. Arrived really quickly and tasted lovely. Washed down with some local beers.

Dinner in a downstairs booth, fully booked first night here booked for next night. Got harbour views but upstairs better. Food was fresh and delicious. My seafood dish was stunning. Dessert was delicious too. If in Orkney I highly recommend but be sure to book and get an upstairs table.

We are a big group and had dinner on the cosy first floor. All our food are fabulous. Must try the Thai monkfish with noodles - didn't expect such lovely dish outside of Asia. Salad is a good size to go as main. My steak was very nicely made, juicy and the right medium rare.
