The Foveran Restaurant in Orkney Islands

Interesting menu with excellent food served by friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Last night ( Feb.14th) . Another brilliant evening spent at our favourite Orkney restaurant: excellent food and service in their beautiful and spacious dining room.

We had a wonderful evening at the Foveran. The food was fresh and beautifully cooked. My steak was the best steak I've had, it just metled in my mouth. Afantastic evening with excellent service. We enjoyed every minute.

Surprised at the size of the place as it is well hidden at the road end and entrance is intimate but as you walk through to the dining area it opens up into a huge area with windows all around. The menu offered a few treats or nibbles to start and we tried the smoked queenies (scallops) fantastic, don’t miss them. Lots of local produce to try, with specials available. We went local as far as possible. Scallops, Grimbister cheese, halibut, lovely. The service was great and the evening was much enjoyed.

Dined here. Food ok but not memorable. Somehow lacking in any wow factor. Having dined at Storehouse the night before, Foveran was slightly disappointing, and it is Storehouse we will return to.

Exquisite food, especially the scallop starter, and fantastic views. Early evening booking was a good plan to get the best window seats.

The Foveran is the best restaurant on the mainland, in my opinion!The food is phenomenal, the drinks menu is great (especially the gin menu) and the ambience is lovely. It’s a real slice of luxury.It’s not the cheapest place to eat - between two of us we racked up a bill of £100 on starters and mains - but we didn’t hold back!Service was for the most part great, but slightly disorganised at the end of the evening where we ended up waiting ~20 mins between getting and paying the bill.All in all - the food at the Foveran is absolutely brilliant and I’d highly recommend everyone book a table right now.

Having dined at the Foveran on several occasions over the years and enjoyed the excellent cuisine, I had the opportunity recently to stay there for 4 days. This visit confirmed and reinforced my opinion that Paul Doull and his staff provide really first-class hospitality. The dining experience - cooking, service, ambience - is unbeatable and excellent value for money. My bedroom was spotless, simply furnished but very comfortable, with a light and airy en-suite. Breakfast offers all you could possibly wish for and if hot is your preference, everything is freshly cooked to order.All this, plus a peaceful location with beautiful views over Scapa Flow. Easy travelling to all of Mainland and, if travelling to the outer islands, within 10 minutes of Kirkwall airport and ferries, and 10 minutes to Stromness.Altogether perfect!

Always a great experience at The Foveran and many thanks to everyone there for giving my parents a lovely evening out after such a difficult year. High quality local produce cooked beautifully and in a perfect setting.

We only ate in the restaurant. The staff are well trained and efficient, the views are great. Though billed as a seafood restaurant, the choice of seafood was limited to sea bass (lobsters with 24hrs notice) or scallops (as a starter). They really seem to specialise in steaks so, rather than have farmed fish in Scotland, I went for a steak which I asked for 'medium rare'. I was taken aback to be told that they advised 'well done'. We compromised on 'medium-well done' and it was good as steaks go.
