The String in Shetland Islands

Nice resteraunt with great atmosphere really enjoyed it every time I've been there, especially the fish and seafood!

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough!I would 100% recommend booking - we tried to walk in c.6pm one August Sunday evening when we expected it to be quiet and found they were fully booked.We came back later that week for a birthday meal and were not disappointed.Beer-wise, the Joker IPA was more flavourful than the West summer ale.The mussels were brilliant as was the hake, the crab starter turned out to be with a "63 egg" which is poached in its shell at 63°C for 63 minutes - sublime! The beef was pretty tasty too.Really nice place for a lovely dinner.We also were in jeans and walking boots, felt v relaxed.I would heartily recommend!

I had an excellent meal at The String.The main course halibut in particular was first class--really one of the best dishes I've ever had.Also, I appreciated the relatively relaxed pace of service and the attention to quality over quantity.I hope The String is still around next time I am home in Shetland.

Sorry we weren't overwhelmed food was alright but the pricing was exorbitant. They are obviously popular as we saw them turning people away. I hope we were unlucky they really need to be not so a,la Carte more fundamental.

Wow what a food, went for lunch with best friend and they had Shetland crab on specials. Yuuuum the rest of the menu looks amazing too

Just had one of the best meals I've had in Shetland in 50 years of coming here (30 as an adult). Delicious Mussels in Cider and Cream Sauce with Parmesan Crumb followed by slow cooked Beef with Mash and Root Veg, delicious. The Orange Sorbet was to die for. My wife and the kids equally enjoyed their meals. It was excellent value too (not bargain basement but priced well for the meal). We'll be back 100%

So I have been to this place twice now. The first was for lunch where the we were left for 5 minutes without menus and the wait for our food was long even though there was very little customers. However with the Outlook of everything deserves a 2nd chance and the fact that my husband had already booked for dinner we thought we would try again. when we arrived for our booked table we were pointed to the back and told your table is up there in the middle. When we got to our table it was NOT set and there was a dirty glass sitting on it which I had to ask to be removed..... Not a great start. We then ordered our meals - starters were good and showed promise however when we both ordered lamb for main and when it arrived my first thought was 'where is my food?" There was literally 3 bites of lamb for £18!!!! When my husband mentioned his displeasure at there being very little lamb, the response was I will pass on the message, when we finally got the bill we were told there was 60% off it but actually there was less then 20% off. What a waste of money.... We actually went somewhere else for food!!!!

Probably the best food in Lerwick, and the atmosphere was great. Ordered Shetland beef and the presentation and taste was on high class. Price was acceptable. Visit The String if you're after an exclusive meals. Be wary, as the portions on the main course is small, I recommend ordering a starter.

Lovely peerie new place you can go for a great coffee or a meal (or both like in my case).Staff are the nicest and sweetest.As a starter I had the fish cakes, which were delicious. For main I chose the hake that comes with a sort of curry sauce and sweet potatoes and again it was fingerlicking. I would have ordered a dessert but was too full so only got an espresso, which again it was fabulous, super foamy and properly made.
