Golden Fish in Barking and Dagenham

Queued last thursday for the shop to open 10 minutes late, with other patrons stating that they are often late in opening. Gave the benefit of the doubt as i had fond memories from eating here as a child. But once we were inside we were informed that nothing was cooked? Surely if you open at a certain time every day youd have something cooked and ready to serve?

Loved it food was amazing staff are really nice friendly best chippy ever has been for 30+ years I have known it had not been for years and it is still amazing after all this time can't wait til next visit loved it

As always fantastic service and great food!! Been going here for over twenty years and have always called it cheapy chippy as it always seems cheap for the amount and quality of food. Their sausage rolls are the best!

Always friendly staff. They will generally cook you a new piece of fish if requested.prices are about the same as everywhere else.I haven't found a small bone in a piece of Cod for a very long time, and the batter is delicous.The chips are, though not cooked brown; are just as nice.I used to eat inside, instead of just take-away, but I've got too big now for their tables to accomodate.

Usually very good quality, however today ordered cod and chips and cod on its own, while the chips was hot and fresh , both cod was soggy, and just warm, I was given the last 2 in the cabinet and seems to have been there for quite a while, myself and wife could not eat it and do discard itVery disappointed, just chips for dinner

The fish and chips here are probably the best I've had in ages - and it's all in the consistency. Golden has never suffered an off-day on any of the times I've wandered past and that's why there's always a queue of hungry people waiting for that crisp, golden slice of crunchy savoury goodness, particularly when it's cold.

Very good. However it opens an hour after the Pie and Mash place just a few feet away, and if you are a shift worker that hour does decide where to go for food before going to work. Maybe opening the same time would help their trade a bit more?

I’ve been here a few times when I’m in the area, always great service and food, plus you can eat in which definitely gets my vote.
