Went to khyber grill after searching online for best afghani restaurants near ilford high street.Reviews were promising so went to check it out.Ambience and decor was good. Slightly busy as it was Saturday night however not busy enough.Got seated promptly. One star for decor and ambienceOne star for serviceFood was at best averageLamb Karahi had mutton (older sheep) and not lamb. As it has distinct taste and smell for those who eat both would know what I mean. Asked for spicy and their version of spicy meant putting whole uncooked or steamed green chillis (see pictures). Am sorry but it was t great at allMasala fish was oily and it wasn’t cod fish. Which is more chunkier and meaty. It was fried in very hot oil with no taste to coating just blandAs oil was hot I conked the coating from outside but left fish inside still watery. What a shame.Chicken sajji was totally bland and had no flavour apart from sprinkled spice on top. That was only difference between boiled chicken and sajji. Without that sprinkled spice we would not be able to tell whether it’s sajji or boiledI will give food one star because their lemon soda (mostly famous for pindi and Lahore) was spot onI suspect owner of this restaurant are from Punjab and they have semi decent afghani chef.Lemon soda was only thing I would love to have againThey had no roti or afghani qehwa (green tea mint tea etc)seriously how can you run afghani restaurant without both.Unfortunately sad to say won’t be coming back here.Value for money was ok as location is in london.Overall if you go in for food I won’t recommend.

The food was very nice, and service was good and fast. The lamb chops were amazing and mango lassi was delicious. The orange juice had a funny aftertaste. No baby changing facilities available. Decor was nice.

Chapli kebab and lamb chops were excellent, lamb and chicken karahi were very simple, not much spice or flavour but still very nice. Chicken biriyani again was very simple and probably the least enjoyable item from the order. Mango lassi was very nice.

ZABARDAST! All of the staff were friendly and polite, food was fantastic and really met up with the expectations that were in mind. I highly recommend giving the Khyber Grill a taste but the biggest recommendation to try from there would be the sheek kebab and charsi dishes. This was food to it's pure class, keep this good work up!
