We stayed here for 3 nights as it's centrally located to visit all the main areas of the lake District. The pub itself is a really nice old place full of charm and character, the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent. There's a decent sized car park which always had plenty of space so no problems there. The room we stayed in was quite small but was clean and had a comfortable bed, but the rooms at the front are extremely close to a road which at times is busy with traffic and can be quite noisy, although of a night time traffic does die off to vertually nothing so it didn't interfere with us sleeping. Overall we enjoyed our time at the Travellers Rest and would definitely come back.

After looking at the good reviews online for this place me and a few friends thought we'd give it a go on our journey home from Keswick. All was well as we entered and ate at the time we had booked for. When it came to the food quality, it just wasn't how the reviews made out unfortunately.. some meats we had were okay, others such as the beef was like leather. It was not the beef you have on a Sunday roast. This wasn't even questioned when left when plates were collected. Also the veg tasted very similar to the veg steam bags you collect at the super market, very distinct taste..The sticky toffee pudding dessert gained some points back, however a hair was found in one.The soft drinks were nice and service was okay. The toilets reminded us of a prison so not the most pleasant..Overall it was very 'ok' and that is all.

Service were nice, food was tasty. However, my fiancée and I ordered a camembert to share, it arrived with three small slices of sourdough - no where near enough for a camembert and a pot of jam that it came with. We smothered the slices that came with it and there was still a lot of cheese and jam left. I asked for more bread - I was then provided with two extra slices. Great, I thought, until we received the bill and found that we were charged 90p for the two extra slices. Ridiculous decision by whoever thought to do this. There is not enough bread provided with this dish and you should not be charging your customer for extra bread. This came out of the tip which is unfortunate for the service staff.

Nice enough place with friendly service but outdone by a few other options on the roads between the lakes. Seems to be popular with locals who perhaps aren't too keen on the tourist trade which detracts from the overall experience somewhat. No fault of the ownership but wouldn't return unless other options were closed.

Excellent rooms - modern, stylish decor. Service was friendly and quick, always people around to help. Location is perfect. Several fells are easy to reach just by stepping out of the door. The closest are Stone Arthur, Helm Crag, and Seat Sandal, and their respective neighbours.

Must have driven past it 500 times, but dropped in with hungry mates and the lovely staff were able to fit us in next to the fire. Food was home-cooked style rather than posh and it was better for it, as we had 3 very tasty starters and 3 excellent mains. Good portion sizes and couldn't fit in a dessert (I got jealous when I saw the creme brule, so I will definitely be going back).

We stumbled across this pub towards the end of our walk and were pleasantly surprised at quality of the food! The food was very well cooked and incredibly good quality.I had the chicken livers and my partner had the fish & chips - they were really good!Would definitely recommend this place for a good quality bite to eat after a long walk!

We went for lunch after a 3 hour walk, so it was perfect to come across this place. Really tasty food and large portions. Lots of choice on the menu and attentive staff.

Best Sea Bass dish ever. Beautifully cooked fish and presentation. Prawn and lemon sauce and the trimmings were delicious. Compliments to the chef.Great breakfast choice.Staff are polite, friendly and professional. Nothing fake and no annoying staff gossiping and on mobiles. Great location in beautiful surroundings. Decor beautiful and cosy. Bedrooms lovely. Will stay again and recommend to everyone. Very close to Ambleside but nowhere near as commercialised.

Very cosy pub with great food, local ales and friendly staff. The ploughman's was delicious and reasonably priced. What a nice way to finish a day in the mountains.
