Good straightforward Japanese dishes. Decent portions and quick service. I appreciate that their curries include more veg than at other places. Student discount also!

Very good food, the chicken katsu curry is a very good choice for the price. The food was hot and stayed warm all the way through the meal, lots of high quality food and tastes better than allot of competitors. 100% best meal so far.

Lovely service who gave a 10% discount and we ordered the Korean fried chicken thighs and breast. It was tasty!

I absolutely love this place. The pork belly and the chicken buns are delicious. The food is affordable and you can eat it, most customers are quick to finish as a lot of them are students. It offers student discounts (10%). The menu selection is not strictly Japanese but includes Chinese and Korean specialties. There is also a temporary special dish to try every once in a while.

The Japanese food we ordered was like a bastardized version. Even the miso soup tasted bland. How can you make a simple miso soup wrong? 🙃

I've been here twice now after uni, as I do evening classes. It's laid back enough that I feel comfortable coming here alone to eat dinner, and the portions are decent too. I particularly like the Korean fried tofu. They also give a 10% student discount too which is a nice touch. It's slap bang in between two of my buildings, so it's convenient for me. I'll definitely be back 👌

Sorry to my stomach. It’s noodle not ramen🍜🙈😭Before a meeting in central London, I rushed to have lunch. I wanted a vege lunch with a ramen so I went to @thejapanesecanteen. Unfortunately, I did a wrong decision 😢.On their menu, they said ‘noodles freshly made here today’ and it only costed £7.95. Ok. Why not to try it.WHAT I GOT🥟Vegetable dumplings🍜Tofu noodle soupThe noodle soup came with dried bean curd, bean sprouts, courgette, spring onion and sesame. The toppings were a bit cold. The soup base was said with spicy sesame miso stock. Instead of spicy miso, I tasted the Sichuan chilli flavour. The noodles were too soft and tasted like the ambient instant noodles that could be bought in the supermarkets. Ended up I got a soup noodle instead of ramen🙈 It’s not my cup of tea😭Cost wise, I won’t expect the quality of food as good as proper ramen shop. It’s a good choice for quick lunch but honestly I think there will be another choice for me 😣How’s the dumplings? See my next post on Instagram @ccgyozalover for the details. 🤨

Very cheap food, specially for students as they offer a 10%discount! Food is good for what you pay, and the dishes are quite big so you end up quite full. They als have new items from time to time, depending on the season.

This restaurant is nothing special in my opinion. This only deserves a comfort food since it is a cheap and okay taste. Recommended for only comfort food not worth coming here if you want to try there are better food. Why is it even called japanese canteen though? not all the food are japanese lmao. Anyway not recommended for the taste only for the price.

I had Korean fried chicken with noodles and a bit of salad - delicious! It was my first time having Korean fried chicken, as well as eating at this place. It wasn't very crowded and it had a simple but tasty-looking menu. Would definitely come here again!
