Great yakitori experience. We made the reservation online 2 weeks before, had it confirmed and came for dinner where we sat at the counter being able to observe the magic. We primarily ordered grilled dishes - yakitori - and it was amazing. On top of that, the miso soup was brilliant! So, all in all, we will definitely be coming back for more!

Felt like I was back in Japan. Quality of food served was perfect. I will definitely be back for more dinners.

Ordering food in a restaurant? Apparently too much to ask.Jin Kichi sets limited dining time for each table, for us it was one and half hours. It is OK if the service was speedy but the fact is you will spend most of the time waiting for the food, especially the skewers, to be served. 40 mins before we had to leave, we asked for a second round ordering but we were told that we can not get any more skewers. The waitress, who we later found out was also the “manager”, made it sound like it’s our fault to order food. When we asked her why didn’t she inform that there is a hard cutoff for ordering, she responded “it’s not me, the chef is too busy, look at how many orders are waiting”. Since she said we can order things other than the skewers, we did because the portion of every dish was really just tiny. 10 mins before the harsh deadline to leave, we asked another waitress wether it is possible to add an order of sashimi, the waitress checked with the “manager” and they started to talk loudly in Japanese, you don’t need to know Japanese to understand what they were saying. Sashimi? Of course we did not get it, no way, no sorry, just, NO.Other than the service, the food was honestly just OK. The skewers were burnt because the chef was literally burnt with the orders being pushed to him, most of the regular items were no better than other Japanese restaurants, and the service was just the worst I’ve ever seen.Let’s spend our hard-earned money on restaurants that are worthy, yea? The kind that serves decent food, the kind that has a promising chef, and the kind that serves your food with intention to impress. Hey, we are all just here to feel good and eat nice food, no one as a customer deserves to be treated this way.

difficult to find a homely 居酒屋 in London, yakitori gyu-tan, veggies tempura @ Jin Kichi are quite wonderful 👍👍

A not-so-hidden gem at Hampstead village, a homey izakaya that provides the authentic Japanese culinary experience. The grilled mackerel was truly amazing, it is a dish that I don't often find in London. The fish was fresh, juicy and cooked to perfection. The sake set was sold out when we visited. This restaurant is definitely a nice place for a light meal/drink, it is more on the pricier side but still worth a try.

One of the best Japanese restaurants at a reasonable price. Very cosy and felt like we were in Japan. Wagu steak was cooked to perfection. Highlight was the yakitori of gizzard and ox tongue. Highly recommend!!

·

Restaurant is a bit small & distance between each table is narrow (like authentic Japanese izakaya restaurants) Food & service is good however we’re a bit disappointed many items was sold out (like Wagyu…)

Cozy and utterly delicious. Probably the best Japanese food I’ve had so far in London. The sushi and skewers we had were incredibly good. Beautiful fatty tuna and the duck & chicken skewers in particular, were excellent.

What a gem of a restaurant- authentic, cosy, welcoming, and of course with a fabulous choice of yummy Japanese food.Without a doubt you cannot eat here without trying some of the grilled skewers - just get your order in fast because they use fresh but limited stock which goes quickly (by the time we left the duck, salmon, chilli, onion and the gizzard skewers were all sold out). All our skewers were cooked to perfection over a flaming charcoal grill which gives a great taste and visual too (highly recommended getting a bar seat like I did if you are ordering yakitori). Our favourite of the night was the lamb skewer, but I would also recommend the chicken wings, the duck + spring onion, and the quail eggs.We also tried the mix tempura and potato croquettes which were just as amazing as the skewers. Finally, I can’t comment on this restaurant without mentioning the lovely staff. We were served by Mana (I think I heard you correctly 😭), who was very sweet and attentive, and even put up with us when we spilt some water on the bar.Overall 10/10. I will be back very soon, this has got to be one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London.

My hubby and kids went there first to get a table at 7:30pm and so lucky we made booking in advance for 7:45pm as the place was so busy… yes so busy on a Tuesday night! We ordered nothing raw as we have small kids and the food bill came to £66.20 and drinks (include few sakes) around £40…First the tall seems to be Japanese waitress wasn’t so friendly and when we order we show her the menu and say we want this one please, she replied, I cannot see read it… okay I tried my best to pronounce… yes the place is a dimmed…Then I said I like to order black cod please, she said no, no black cod. So I said ohhh I came all the way from Leicester for the black cod with a big smile on my face… said it lightly and they waitress no respond at all 😂 she was not friend, and very cold… not sure it it’s was busy or she might be stressed out 😮‍💨Food wise, my fav was the cold soba and second was the fried udon…Appetiser we had fish sea beam which was weird, no taste and chewy and the tofu absolutely no taste, can taste few ginger and spring onions…Grilled skewers set A… taste so so… some chicken very soft and juicy and raw… I would say medium… Some chicken super tough and dried…Ordered the ox tongue x2, it was okay… but my hubby said not worth it…over all the grilled skewers was a bit too burnt… little charcoal okay but too much you can only taste the bitter charcoal…Butter mushroom I wish they didn’t squeeze any lemon in as it ruins it for me… it was good until you taste the acidic lemon int he butter mushroom…Coke in big pint glass and apple juice in half pint… sakes was nice 👍 the man working at the till for our bill was a lot friendly and more smile, I think he is Japanese too. They don’t have normal bill, it was a bunch of hand written ones and I had no idea what they are 😅Overall… it was okay experience, better than the stick and sushi that we had in Cambridge with similar price… we may not return anytime soon…
