Engawa in City of London

Dining at Engawa is an incredible experience. The staff is friendly and looks after you from the moment you walk in until you are ready to leave. The design is modern and sophisticated. The food is absolutely outstanding: from their wagyu beef to the sashimi, each dish deserves to be tasted slowly and with gusto. You might find this restaurant a bit pricey, but the quality justifies the extra pounds spent.

Booked via OpenTable for a friends birthday. Service was brilliant. Although slightly hurried towards the end as it’s a 90 minute omakase bento meal. Though appreciate they allowed us time and even accommodated to my friends birthday with the delicious matcha and strawberry crepe. The bento meal itself was okay for the price of the deal.

Lovely, quaint authentic Japanese restaurant. I enjoyed the Omakase 3 Course dinner. Well presented, with unique tastes in every dish. It was a wonderful culinary experience 😍. The sake was aromantic and smooth

Tried two-tiered HAKOZEN bento box for lunch, unfortunately the sashimi is not too fresh on the day I visited. The wagyu is a very tiny piece of meat.

Phenomenal omikase! We had the 3 courses which had the sashimi starters, soup middle course and choice of sushi or wagyu for main. All were delicious, highlights being the fatty toro, mushroom porcini and miso soup. A low key, small restaurant but a real gem in the heart of Picadilly.

Bravo! Brilliant traditional Japanese food. Amazingly fresh fish, great experience despite our table’s varied diets. Can’t wait to come back. Pro tip: order extra toro

The only 2 stars are for the food. We came here for the 50% off deal via online booking but somehow the waiters seem to look down on us for ordering that deal. The waiters are very keen to take dishes away from us and rushing us despite we booked a table, a waiter literally took away the tray when my friend was clearly still consuming the dish on the tray. The waiter provided the wrong bill and was very rude and did not even say thank you when we paid! Poor service however the food was very good especially the sashimi. It is definitely authentic Japanese food !

Came here for Sunday lunch and the bento box was absolutely divine! It started off with some miso soup and a starter of tofu dish before coming with the bento box. They have really great selection of dishes to choose from. Really nice homemade wasabi sauce and also fresh sashimis. The restaurant itself was slightly small so do book your table to secure a place here to avoid missing out of this.
