My parents and I own a Chinese Restaurant in Belfast and we went to London for a couple of days to try the food.I just want to say it was to WORST experience I have ever had when it comes to dining.First of all, we ordered 3 dishes, 1 came out very fast, while the rest took at least 30-45 minutes to reach the table, by that time the first dish was cold and the fat had started to thicken. We ordered a chicken soup cooked "grandma's style", which didn't use real or authentic Chinese ingredients, basically trying to trick people that are not Chinese. Then there was the aubergines, they were way too salty. The service was mediocre, we tried to ask when our food was arriving the staff, said they will check but never came back with a straight answer. They would walk towards us, look at our table and walk away as soon as we tried to ask for something.Lets not forget the pricing of the food you cannot honestly price the food at £10 a dish for the crap they are serving, For one thing it is not worth the money. What also came as shock to us was the final bill, the total amount of food only totalled up to £39.40, I'm no expert but I'm sure Chinese people can do mental maths and 10% Service Charge from £39.40 is not £5. We sat opposite a couple that ordered less than us and they were shocked to find the price service charge was £5, FIVE POUNDS STERLING FOR A MEAL THAT COSTS LESS THAN OURS !!!!!!In my honest opinion I hope they STOP what you are doing and GET SOME MATHEMATICS LESSONS as it's WORSE THAN PUPILS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL.Oh by the way I really should think they should recommend their customers to a restaurant around the corner from it it is called WONG KEI its BETTER, CHEAPER and THEY KNOW HOW TO SERVICE PEOPLE

I went with my friend and it was awful. The service was really bad, the staff never help or come back when we ask for something. The food was totally a crap. We can't eat it, it was full of chili seeds. Really, who cook like this?? The worst chinese restaurant ever.Never come back and the prices are too overpriced, near 4 pounds a can of coke? Are you kidding me?

We went inside when we saw locals (i.e. Asians) dining there and we were not disappointed. Although not cheap (27 GBP for menu for two), the food is really great. The decor could be improved. The service charge is 12.5 % (which is clearly stated in the menu).

very nice food, but the atmosphere isn't exactly upscale. good value for money though.

(Translated by Google) If it is a Hunanese, it is really not recommended to go to Taikeng. The Hunan rice noodles are not Hunan at all. It’s hard to die, really don’t come.(Original)如果是湖南人,真的不建议去,太坑,那湖南米粉根本不是湖南的,难吃的要死,真的别来

I feel an obligation to write a review of Golden Day because the other Google review is so ridiculous. Complaining about food being spicy or bones being in your chicken at an authentic Hunan style Chinese restaurant is like complaining about a burger being served on a bun. That's what how the food is supposed to be!Golden Day is one of the best Chinese restaurants in London, and I highly recommend it if you enjoy eating authentic Chinese food and are intrigued by the idea of Hunan cuisine. If you aren't ready for that, then don't eat here. But don't besmirch the good name of Golden Day just because you don't know how Hunanese food is supposed to be prepared.

I agree with Keith; the food here is truly something. I randomly chanced at the Golden Day on a rainy Sunday evening and I'm glad for it. Agreed that food titles are ambiguous but that doesn't matter because as soon as it arrives you start licking the plate clean. Take my advice and eat here.

My experience wasn't bad but it was certainly no better than average.I ordered the randomly-titled Grandma Style Chicken Cubes. I think it was stir-fried spicy chicken in a really tasty sauce. But nearly every piece of chicken had a bone or large piece of fat in it. In the end I get bored of picking things out of the chicken and gave up. I hate wasting food so this made me grumpy. Luckily our sides were pretty good, the greens covered in garlic being a highlight. There's certainly nothing special about this place, and with all of the other restaurants in China Town just waiting to be explored, I don't think I'll be back.
