This is one of my go to Japanese restaurants in London. Location is great, it's in the heart of Soho, not far from Piccadilly circus, regent Street, China town etc. I have been coming here for years and it never fails me. Came here again for a late lunch last week and ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen which was delicious. The broth was lovely so are the chashu and ramen.

Really fancied sushi for dinner and was recommended Taro by my dining companion. Quick and polite service, lots of choice and great value. I ordered the salmon bento and can highly recommend it. Everything tasted delicious and there was plenty to fill up on. In fact, neither of us could finish everything!I found the atmosphere, for a Thursday evening, lovely and intimate. There was plenty of seating and everyone seemed to be served quickly. Overhearing others as they took their tables, it sounded like there were a lot of returning diners which is always a good sign. And it quickly filled up by time we left.I'm no expert on Japanese food but I have had some poor sushi in the past. I will definitely be returning to Taro next time I'm in Soho!

I’ve been coming here for over a decade. It’s a no nonsense straight up Japanese gaff…..and I love it. So does my 15 year old son who has also joined me here over those long years. You can’t go wrong here. Good value and tasty food.An open bustling kitchen and fast friendly staff.Well done Taro team.

Taro is very nice, price very reasonable, food tasting good, it's a popular place for people who like to enjoy Japanese food with a group of friends. It's for simple, classic Japanese food that tastes nice, if you want exceptional suchis it's not the right place (at this price it makes a lot of sense anyway!).

Good family restaurant, average price (15£ for a bento box). Absolutely too much overcrowded, especially during covid periods..

Bad, bad, bad カツ重 - rice too wet, egg too old, pork not bad Sushi - No rice vinegar, no texture, no fish oil Sashimi - no fish oil, it look like in freezer to long

The Unagi is really nice and not so expensive relatively, sushi is also okay. Definitely a value choice of places here. Would love to come here to try some other dishes.

Remember to always book a table in advance! This place is always full! it was sort of a last minute thing so I didn't book a table. So even though we did have to wait a while, I knew it was going to be worth it as I have been here a few times before over the years and love it. Once seated it is quite tight as it's a small place. But the food is so good. Took my friend here and it was her first time there. She absolutely loved the place and food. If you want a more authentic Japanese place definatly go here. The owner of the place as I mentioned to my friend. Was actually the one in the pictures placed on the wall. So you knew it was a genuine love for the restaurant from the owner and not just random pictures you get from westernised places. And also the fact the owner (now an old man) is still working there himself! If it's not busy you might be able to.meet him. The night we were there he was in the kitchen cooking as part of his team. That is some dedication and love put into his food. So overall I love this place. Food is absolutely delicious. Authentic and full of love. Love all the little pictures displayed. Full of history which gives the place a nice feel. It doesn't look old by the way. Still very modern. Just the pictures are old 😅 can't wait to go back again.

Date visited: 21/05/21Atmosphere: quiet small restaurant a stone’s throw away from Piccadilly circus stationFood: average - served within 15mins, sashimi tasted fresh; duck on rice teriyaki sauce was a little salty - parts of the duck were tender but some were a bit dry, rice was questionable - some bits tasted like porridge but some areas were too dry and hardened (small portion of extra rice was given upon query); noodles were warm but egg was cold, slightly bland to my taste but broth was decently made, price range is average but slightly disappointing considering quality of food served on that dayService: friendly accommodating staff
