The Old Red Cow in City of London

Great to see they are still running, especially with how empty City of London can get with the current situation. Used to work opposite these guys and so popped in now and then few years ago.Love their selection of beers, beautiful choice of ales and lagers. The food is good, had a pie and lamb shank. I can be picky with lamb as aged lamb can have a particular taste that puts me off, it was falling off the bone and tasted fresh to me and they had cooked it with a gentle fragrant of mint that was there but not overwhelming. Pie had a good amount of meat to ale gravy. Loved that they gave extra gravy in case you’re a gravy fiend!

🚇 Barbican🍺 £5.80 Paulaner❤️ A Victorian pub with a modern makeover..The Old Red Cow is just a short walk from Barbican Tube and sits opposite the new Farringdon Elizabeth line station. I visited here just before Christmas on a crawl around the area and it was very quiet due to covid plan b restrictions. The pub should have been mobbed with office workers having their Christmas drinks but their was only me, my son, a vicar and her friend in the pub, there’s a joke in there somewhere! This pub has a good beer line up, I had a very enjoyable pint of Paulaner which I haven’t had for some time. The Vicar and her friend were tucking in to some grub, this pub has a strong pie and burger game. This boozer has had a makeover to modernise the place, if I’m honest, I do prefer the previous traditional set up. That said, it does make the pub stand out against its traditional neighbours. The pub is set out over two floors with the upstairs catering for diners and downstairs for those popping in for a drink, both of which are nice spaces. The barman who was on duty was very welcoming and we had a chat about how business was, he was still upbeat considering how quiet it was..The Old Red Cow is an Independent pub which offers it’s punters a decent food and drinks offering. The pub is open seven days a week which is great, as some of the other local pubs are only open during the week, so you have somewhere to grab a beer or a bite to eat if you’re visiting the area at the weekend. Pubs like this need our support in these tough times, so why not visit this great part of London and pay The Old Red Cow a visit..📊 Information correct on visiting 21/12/21

Meaty burger with crispy chips both were enjoyable. Unfortunately the night I went only one hand pulled beer available which was a pity in an otherwise historic, independent city pub. Friendly staff

The Old Red Cow is located to the south-east of, and directly opposite, Smithfield Market - so ideal for an afterwork drink if you’re traveling home from either Farringdon or Barbican Stations. This is a Victorian, light-and-airy craft beer house, spread over two floors. With loads of beers on draft and keg, and a beer menu chalked-up on the wall, it has allegedly one of the largest selections in London.Never eaten here but the food looks good - but best to book as it’s easily swamped by the aforementioned afterwork drinkers.

Not the largest pub in the world but none the worse for that. Historic setting and a pub with history. Very pleasant with a great beer offering. Helpful staff, great all round. Also, more room upstairs. Come down and enjoy!

Just brilliant! I came here with my colleagues for our Christmas Do and we had a great time. The food was excellent, generous portions, so tasty and we got extra jugs of gravy. The wine list and the beers/ales on offer had us spoilt for choice and we stayed for more drinks afterwards. Couldn't recommend it enough, thank you! (Pics include Baked Goats Cheese starter, Christmas Turkey and all the trimmings and Apple Tarte Tatin with the best Salted Caramel ice cream I have ever tasted)

Cracking selection of real ales. Dined for a Sunday Roast. We had the beef and chicken, both very good and portion sizes were healthy. Also had the scotch egg starter - bit on the salty side. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area at the weekend.

Fantastic roasts.. This is our go to place for our January reunion roast. I couldn't recommend it more. The Yorkshire's are enormous (see pic) and the kale is beautifully garlicky. It's probably wise to book, as it is a small venue and most tables are booked. If I lived in London, I'd def come here more often.
