The Port House in City of London

Lovely cosy and popular tapas place. I was invited for my birthday so can't comment on price.We had a wonderful meal of small plates of wonderfully flavoured tastes.I especially enjoyed the prawns in chilli and garlic and the crispy pork belly nibbles. The squid ink rice was also divine. I was not convinced by the tendency to smother some dishes in mayonnaise, and the meatballs were underwhelming.The lemon sorbet with white port was astounding also. I enjoyed a gin cocktail also.

Ordered 2 x port middle range tasting trios, and some tapas. Port tasted lovely until we hit the sediment, very bitter, dry and undrinkable. Customer service was awful, told that's just the way it is at the end of the bottle. No offer to replace or refund, ruined what would have been a lovely experience.

If you want to try sherry, port or both, this is the place. The staff can recommend something to your taste or you can have a tasting flight. Sit at the bar for the full experience.

What a beautiful hidden little gemTapas is a favourite one of mine and this restaurant did not disappointThe food was really tasty, I particularly enjoyed the croquettes.The cocktails were also very goodWe were initially seated upstairs but my friend is pregnant and needed a bit more room, so we asked the staff and they happily moved us and our drinks downstairs.They were very accommodatingI will definitely return to this candlelit tapas restaurant

Cosy, romantic vibe in this cute restaurant close to theatres on The Strand. Pretty typical tapas menu. Food was mixed (as was the service) - some good things, a few things under seasoned. Very tight table space and toilets needed more attention than they got(!) Not bad value but not sure if I’d go back. 3.5 stars maybe!

Brilliant place .. we popped in for some pre theatre food and it was perfect. They were full but the staff were lovely and said we could sit at a table outside which had a heater. The food can quickly and was delicious and fresh. Great price as well. Will definitely be back another time.

Top notch place in London for tapas and port wine. Staffs were a bit indifferent about their service but the overall experience was great.jamon iberico de bellota - Great balance between fatty and nutty, a must try if you’ve never had any iberico ham OR had bad experience with it, let this ham refresh your understanding.Confit duck - Originated in French I believe, but what they served here is better than that in any French restaurants I’ve ever tried. The tenderness of meat and fatty duck skin led to a guilty satisfaction when you’re feeling it melting inside your mouth.Churros - A bit overpriced but underdelivered.

Taking salvage from the rain we steamed into Port House; that is, Mummy’s glasses streamed up.Not wanting to sit on a high stool at the bar that greets entry, Mummy walked to the table area. The casualness of the place left mummy unclear if we were to wait to be seated or grab a table ourselves. So, she asked a waitress.Once assisted Mummy asked for a table for one human and a teddy bear. Taken promptly to the backmost small table, Mummy commented that it seems to be custom to put solo eaters at the back and asked for a table more central. It seemed like the waitress took offense. Though Mummy hadn’t meant any rudeness; it was just a part frustrated, part dry-humoured comment she’d made. The waitress said that Mummy had asked to be placed at the back. We can only think that she misheard ‘A table for a human and a teddy bear’ as ‘A table at the back’!Rather than take our order it appeared that she went out back and another waitress came out to take our order. I told Mummy off for upsetting the first waitress, even if unintentionally.Lightly spiced with a slight sweetness the sauce complimented the succulent vegetables of our order, Caldereta de Garbanzos Morunos – Chickpea stew of Mediterranean vegetables with Moroccan spices.Being a tapas bar the portion was small (it would normally be ordered with other tapas). But Mummy is on a budget and we were only looking for a small bite to fill a small hole in our little tum tums before going to the opera.The ambiance is warm and cozy, the music pleasant and at a suitable volume for eating. The drawback is that the nearest lavatory is so easy to miss that we missed it and ended up going on an unnecessary adventure to find one up too many too narrow stairways and through too many doors.It was only on the way back that we spotted it in the dark corridor. The lavatories are no way accessible for wheelchair users.But aside from that, we enjoyed our time and our light meal here.On leaving Mummy said good bye to the waitress that had served us and the one with whom we’d had the misunderstanding. Both pleasantly returned our goodbye.This is lovely little tapas place if in The Strand and looking to have some yummy nosh in a reasonably quiet restaurant.

Fantastic place if you like Spanish cuisine. The food was amazing, the service was exceptional and the whole atmosphere was really homey. We are definitely coming back!!!

Nice staff but very small portion of the tapas. Cheese plate was very poor, has only 5 slices of cheese and cost £14.50, we've spend £120 and im still hungry. A liitle bit disappointed. Port wine was very good.
