Retsina & Mousaka in Ealing

Hi all first went to this restaurant in 1978 for our 1st wedding anniversary. Had 3 different owners since then. Food and the service just keeps on getting better, Maria and Angelo thanks. Live in Canada now but always go back when we visit the best food ever in the whole World thanks Paul and Renu.

Always a good meal whether it's to eat in or takeaway. Mixed starters are enough to feed a family and all really tasty. Portion sizes for mains are huge. Great service every time.

The owner says he'll call the police on me!An absolutely abysmal experience. My family and I (9 of us in total) attended an 80th birthday meal for my Grandmother. This was her favourite restaurant.Our table wasn't ready when we arrived even though we had made a booking and were on time. The owner told me "patience" as I approached the table.It took 15 minutes before we had to ask for drinks. This is despite the restaurant being empty. There were two other tables occupied. My Grandmother knew the owner as she cared for his father many years ago as she worked as a nurse. This makes our experience all the more upsetting given this unique context.We were never offered drinks or another bottle of wine, so we didn't order any more. Our empty jugs of water were never topped up until we asked.The two members of staff were cooking and attending to customers concurrently. One staff member didn't speak English which left the owner as the only person we could ask if we needed something.On balance, the food was okay but nothing to write home about.The main issue here is when it came time to pay the bill. I asked for a breakdown of the £200 bill as the price came written on a piece of paper with no itemisation. The owner had to go back to his calculator and told me the costs off the top of his head. I was also informed that the salads supposedly included with our meals were charged at 1.95 per 2 people. I didn't care too much about this, but it was cheeky given that we we were told they were complimentary. The owner seemed shocked I would ask for such a breakdown.I then said that I would be willing to pay the £18 service charge but l would like to share some feedback before I settled the bill. The owner then launched into a tirade about how there was nothing wrong about the service. He stated that he'd given us 3 jugs of tap water, which he has to pay for, and added on an extra chair to our table (as if that put him out)! The added chair was for another paying customer in his empty restaurant! He didn't give me an opportunity to share my feedback. I said that I wouldn't pay the service charge if he wasn't willing to at least hear my feedback. The owner said if I didn't pay the service charge he would call the police! This is a first for me. Any rational owner would appreciate customer feedback.The owner then went to speak to my Uncle and Grandmother in an attempt to bypass me despite me paying for the bill! He was shouting at me in front of my 80 year old grandmother. He asserted that service charges are mandatory in his restaurant. This is not legal. The confrontation went on for five minutes in front of other guests. I said I would pay for the bill but not the service charge. He wouldn't let me pay unless I paid the service charge. We did not give in, and he gave in after a while.On the way out, he told my Mother we were not welcome again and that he hopes we enjoy the £18 service charge we refused to pay.I've never not paid a service charge in my life and frankly I couldn't care if the bill was £50 more expensive. I'd be happy to pay more for attentive customer service. I will never step foot in this restaurant again nor will my grandmother. He ruined her 80th birthday meal and is a truly horrible individual.

The worst Greek food I’ve ever tasted. The rudest customer service I’ve ever received. The owner was a nasty man. DO NOT go to this restaurant.

This is the kind of restaurant where you come to spend and evening, not rush in and out. The staff are very friendly and the food is delicious. This was our 2nd visit and we will be coming back again soon!

Great Atmosphere, lovely food and very warm and welcoming staff. Had a great night with the family. Best Baklava ever!

One of the most outstanding, Greece food situated in Ealing. The fish Mezes, the salads and cold appetisers are freshly made and delicious. Wine is incredible in quality. The staff is friendly. Really worthy place to eat.

We have been going to Retsina & Mousaka since 1998, and I am not sure why I am posting a review only now. We love the food and the atmosphere, although with the current lockdown rules, we are picking up takeaway orders to eat at home. Highly recommend.

Great tasty Greek (Cypriot) food. The place is small but cosy and has its own charm in a way. Very genuine. Food gets served in a reasonable time and the staff is very friendly. The portions are generous and the price is not too expensive for what you get in other places in the area. Recommended! I wouldn't mind going back again.
