The ambience is nice, chilled with a family vibe. The service is warm, welcoming and Sophie was attentive, helpful and friendly. I'd describe the food as Michelin star quality, I would definitely recommend the fish cakes in tartar sauce. There is also outside dining with tables and little sheltered spaces with heated seating. Babies have high chairs and dogs are also welcome. Nestled at the edge of Forty hill park, you have the chance to walk through the lovely green park after or before your meal. I think I've found my new favourite pub.

My Dad and I had a brilliant lunch at the Rose and Crown. The Dover Sole was the best I have ever had - fresh and perfectly cooked and an absolute steal for £18. The plates were well presented. They have well-kept ale and a nice wine selection, with all wines available by the glass. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. This is a great pub and we can't wait to return.

Not many vegan options, portions small and very expensive. I did ask for a pasta dish, they said can remove the meat ingredients. I asked if charged the same and didn't seem receptive to my request but would ask the chef. The food was fine last time but my brother and myself were left hungry and a lot of money for a few vegan sides.

Much improved after recent renovation. Inside is cosy , soft lighting , nooks and crannies. Reasonable outside seating area, not overcrowded. We had lunch - decent fish and chips, fish fingers in a brioche bun was nicer and better priced. Small selection of ales , more lagers. Good spot to stop during a walk round hilly fields and forty hall. Guess it will get really busy over the summer

Quality good, quantity poor. If you’re expecting a hearty pub meal then this isn’t for you. If you expect a fair jug custard with your pud then you’ll be disappointed. Love the pub for social drinks and staff friendly .

Credit where it is due they did a lovely job renovating it and the outside seating is nice, Food menu is extremely limited. The owner could do with a smile and experience in customer service.Firstly when you walk in to the bar and your the only one standing there but 5 employees behind the bar, the least you can do it greet your clientele and let them know you’ll be right with them instead of completely ignoring them for 5 minutes. Also when you order 7 bowls of chips and 1 sweet potato fries and they only bring you out 6 and we ask for the one we are missing please don’t bring a card machine saying “we only ordered 6 when you had already charged us £28.50 (£3.50 for fries + £4 for sweet potato) then argue with us that we got it wrong when you actually charged us for it. Mistakes happen but an apology would go along way. It’s a shame this pub could be a nice pitstop when walking the dog accept atmosphere is a let down.

Pub lovely inside and out.Food was fine, definitely better than most pubs in the area. Sat in for a burger and beer.Reserved tables need to have the time they are reserved from so people know they can sit there. They don't, so the pub feels and looks empty before they get there (and we were put in the back room next to the mens)General customer service needs to be better, was a bit of a frosty reception from the owner and it felt like we were a burden!

This is a lovely old pub with a decent sized beer garden, and covered booths too. The real draw is the food though - we had an incredible Sunday roast (recommend the beef) with all the trimmings & finished with a couple of excellent desserts. I particularly liked the Guinness brownie & ice cream - absolutely lush! The service here is excellent too, really friendly & efficient. We had such a lovely time, we'll be coming back again very soon.

Really enjoyed our visit! Sat outside in covered area to rear of pub, which was comfy and great place for a chat. Also had food whilst there - limited menu, but the fish and chips was superb! Clearly freshly cooked and delicious....the batter was crisp and the chips were also great. Staff are really nice and friendly, and was a perfect way to spend a summer evening!
