The Royal Standard in Greenwich

The Royal Standard has been my local for a couple of years now - and with good reason. A good selection of beer, great food, friendly staff and a place with a really nice ambience. The beer gardens front and out back are also great when the weather is good. Highly recommend visiting here if you’re new to the area looking for a local, or just visiting Greenwich park and have stumbled onto Blackheath.

The Royal Standard is my local neighbourhood pub. The managers, Mark and Caroline, have done a great job at creating a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere with regular music and social events. The inside of the pub is spacious and comfortable. There's a wide choice of drinks and a varied menu, including a roast lunch on sundays. There are also two outdoor seating areas with bench seats and tables. The staff are great - very friendly, sociable and always welcoming. The pub had a makeover in early 2015 that didn't really work under the management at that time. But since Mark and Caroline have taken over this place is now definitely the best pub in the Blackheath area.

Top notch Roast last Sunday with all the trimmings! Was delighted to see the newly painted decor and the addition of plants - brightens up the venue so much - such a nice atmosphere. I've always thought the staff are so friendly too - nothing is too much. Taking our 4 year old and 2 year old out is always a bit of a nightmare - but the staff were great with them and made sure they were served fast so no hangry rumbles from the kids! Will definitely be coming back next week for the vinyl sessions!

This pub has been my local for 30 years. I use it just about every day. It is without doubt the best pub for miles around. The managers, Caroline and Mark, staff, food, drink, company are great. Came in on a Sunday for lunch and bubbles with my parents and kids. Friendly staff, good food and banging tunes. Staff happy to accommodate for fussy children and baby changing facilities available for when my baby leaked through his clothes!! Good, knowledgeable staff, friendly management... will return 👍🏻

Visited for Sunday lunch today.Firstly the good points, friendly staff, a good selection of lagers (not so many ales), and I had a Pork Belly Roast special, which I could not fault 👍But sadly there were a number of bad points.It was busy, but not heaving, so we were very disappointed to wait over 50 mins for our meals and to not have been informed of the delay (managing expectations very important with a 3 and 6 year old!). The process of ordering took an extremely long time, we would have used the QR code but the specials were not loaded into the menu, so I went to the bar. There, the one more experienced member of staff kept pushing my more inexperienced server aside to use his till to process other people's orders. I guess this put us down the queue once our 8 cover order was finally placed.Aside from my meal, others were not great:2 steak and ale pies that were lukewarm, and had soggy undercooked pastry. A fishcake dish that was missing its advertised grains side, and came instead with some salad leaves (a member of staff was asked about this but never returned to tell us what had happened).Finally, 4 of the meals were fish and chips, the 2 adult portions came with no peas, and all 4 came in batter that was completely inedible. The fish was well cooked and moist, so in my experience the only way the batter could have gotten like this (dark brown and with an extreme bitter/burnt flavour) is by using very old oil in the fryer that should have been replaced weeks ago.We are all for supporting our local businesses as we come out of the terrible last couple of years, so I am leaving this review in the honest hope it is read and acted upon to correct these issues for future customers.Thank you

Nice pub inside. My only criticisms are that some staff are friendlier than others, and food portion sizes are fairly small in my opinion. For example, a portion of chips, albeit lovely in taste, was just about large enough for a small child to consume.

I was really taken aback by the level of personal service from a young and friendly bar team - not something I'm used to in London pubs. I will be returning with friends and spreading the word about this little gem hidden in Blackheath Royal Standard. The atmosphere was immediately welcoming - the music selection was superb and I felt relaxed the moment we entered. I've booked for their disco brunch event I was so impressed!

Big cow burger + halloumi fries were great. Delivery experience flawed by 2 fails: the minor one they possibly accepted too many orders, it seems Deliveroo could not find a rider available so order had to be redone with little delay. The major one is represented by the little pieces of bamboo that can be seen sprouting out on the left. I hadn't realised they were pieces of the burger skewer and accidentally chewed one. Luckily I am not a child and I didn't swallow it but that never should happen; they also added a slice of bacon (not listed in the ingredients), I don't eat bacon and I assume they did it to make up for the delay but better add a drink, there are people that cannot eat some items, for religious reasons or allergies. Just use thicker and stronger skewers and perhaps check the contents before sending out the order.

Absolutely love coming here. Nice food reasonably priced and a great community atmosphere. The vibe and energy is great and the staff are super friendly. The food menu is delicious and the portion control is just right.
