The 3 Compasses in Hackney

My favorite local pub. Great beers. Nice service. Low key ambience.

We went to 3 Compasses to try the vegan burgers (Filthy Buns). Ambience was ordinary and service nice enough. Range of burger choice was great and creative. Burgers filling and flavourful, better than most Shoreditch vegan burger joints. Biscoff burger super interesting and worth trying.

Lovely atmosphere full of nice people, really good food with a fantastic range of vegan burgers with innovative flavours. The bar staff are great too - no hesitation to change my pint when it tasted a bit funny.

Disappointing and embarrassing first experience.I ordered a double rum and coke and double gin and tonic and the measure was a single and yet I was charged £17 for it. When I called the bar tender up on it in the hope that he would use a measure, he said the reason it looks small is because the glass was small. Odd. He didn’t measure it properly and as the place was busy he just dismissed me. Disappointing first experience as I can see the pub generally receives positive reviews which was why we went. I’m sure that as it was so packed in the pub it was difficult to navigate orders but I just expected something this simple to be done right.

Nice and very popular - range of trendy beers (with matching prices). Friendly young crowd.Quiz night was a bit of a pain but folks were enjoying it (clearly regulars) and it seemed fun - for them ;)Seem to be quite a few DJ nights with a good mix - pardon the pun. Will defiantly be returning.

The food was great, but some of the bar staff were really rude (others were lovely tho) & don't go to the pub quiz - they got one of the answers wrong, didn't apologise or change it which was a bit silly. Oh and nearly every pint had a totally flat top...

One star because the food was banging.I booked weeks in advance to celebrate my birthday. I was emailed the day before my booking to ask if we wanted to take part in the pub quiz. I replied to the email to say that we wanted to, and also that I wanted to add a person to the booking. I recieved no reply, but when I called the answering message said they can't always answer the phone but they will always see their emails so figured it would be fine to turn up with 1 extra as I hadn't been told no.When we arrived, the table was a squeeze even for the 7 of us initially booked for to eat around. I asked a staff member for an extra chair and he was pretty dismissive of me. When I tried to explain it was disappointing because I'd booked he said "I don't know what you want me to do about it". I asked some of the other staff and they were kinder and told me they were working on finding me one more chair. It would've been totally cool if someone had shown a little empathy to the fact this wasn't an ideal seating situation, which was a bit stressful and disappointing. The kitchen staff were bloody delightful though!!The pub quiz host Thom Harris definitely brought the vibes down. He had a question in his quiz about Anne Frank that was incorrect and insulting, and when I pointed it out during the answers he said on the mic: "I had a joke about Anne Frank but I'm not going to say it now". When I tried to bring up the issue with this question with Thom alone he got hostile towards me, victimised himself, said he didn't have time to listen to me because he was marking the quiz, and I should take it up with someone else because he didn't write the questions. He also wouldn't tell me what his Anne Frank joke was (prob cause he realised that nothing about Anne Frank's life or death is funny and that I was gonna name and shame him in a review lol). There were also other questions that were incorrect like some of the song names in the music round. If you want to run a pub quiz, pls pls have some sensitivity and sense of responsibility and fact check if you're going to use a whole quiz written by someone else. This would have upset me faaaaar less if Thom had shown some genuine accountability and said he would fact check things before presenting them in future. I loooove pub quizzes and was really looking forward to my first one post pandemic and it's such a shame when the host makes you uncomfortable.

Laid back pub with relaxed atmosphere during the week, busier on the weekend. There's some outdoor seating at the front which is cosy and has heaters. The pub has a decent menu, I recommend the vegan burgers!

We came here last Sunday to watch the footie (the less said about that the better). We found it to be spacious and felt like they had thought about the Covid rules and really stuck to them. The screens were big for the match, the service was quick and thorough and the house wine was nice. We didn’t eat as we had just been for a roast but it looked like burger and chips sort of deal nothing fancy. There’s an area out front for smoking. It wasn’t overly busy at that point although I know it can get busy here. I wouldn’t say this is a family place and I couldn’t tell if it was dog friendly but certainly a good place to come for a boozey drink with friends or to watch the football

Ive ALWAYS loved this place, had many good night here, the quiz is really fun, lots of beers to pick from. Nice outside table area for smoking. And the filthy buns guys cooking up a storm in the small kitchen, such good burgers.
