The food was fantastic and met expectations. Service was fine I think the menu could have been explained better upfront without us asking. We also were sitting at the table closest to the door which was constantly left ajar - not ideal with the cold temperature at the moment. Overall would recommend for the food but service and ambience could be improved

Visited last night for our anniversary and had a really lovely evening! Food here was immaculately presented and we really appreciated how they adapted some dishes to cater for my boyfriend, who is vegan. The service was attentive but not disruptive, you felt you were looked after. We opted for the wine pairing too, which I'd recommend as a way to make it a little bit more special. We both felt this is the kind of place that just knows how to do things right. Everything ran like a well-oiled machine. The pace of the dishes coming out was really nice, we didn't feel rushed at all. Considering we sat at 6:30 and left around 8:45/9 it was a lovely leisurely meal. The bill was very reasonable, we felt, considering the quality and the experience!! Would highly recommend. What a local gem!

A challenging experienceI’d been planning a dinner with my partner at The Laughing Heart for a few weeks and we were both excited to try what we heard was a great wine bar / restaurant. The Food:Our experience overall was incredibly disappointing. To make a long story short we had the tasting menu and both chose different dishes for each course to try as much as possible, and to be honest a few of them were what we'd consider inedible. Of course this can sometimes come down to personal preference, but the fact that we both had a similar opinion, and honestly I would be surprised if the kitchen staff even tried the food that was sent to us. Other dishes were alright at best, but not remotely close to the quality we were expecting. This was the first time I've ever had to send a plate of food back. The wine as I saw in the reviews when I checked after, was a nice surprise, mainly for the variety more than the quality. We also had the selected wine with the tasting menu, and although some were pleasant it still didn’t live up to expectation. We also weren't particularly comfortable with half servings in each glass that were poured to measure as if the waiting staff's job depended on it, it felt highly and unsubtly rationed. The Service:The only saving grace was the Maitre d' who was welcoming, smiley and helpful throughout but once he left I'd consider the service unprofessional at best, disrespectful at worst.Neither my partner nor I ever really felt comfortable in the space. The icing on the cake being that when we left I had to personally venture into the cloak room to get our coats with nothing from the staff other than coming to see that I'd taken the initiative then turning around without a word, letting us quietly leave as if they had no care in the world. All in all, it was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had at a restaurant, especially considering the price and what should be expected when visiting an establishment like The Laughing Heart.I’ve since been in contact with the restaurant via email to express my concerns, and have been ignored on multiple occasions after receiving short careless replies. Both my partner and I agreed that we would have had a better time at a Nando’s for £20 each.

Absolutely fantastic food and incredibly fun (and delicious) wine pairing to accompany. To us, the menu seemed quite opaque (or perhaps understated) when you read it. Which is to say that it doesn't read like something that's going to be as delicious as it actually is.Strongly recommend!Note that it's pricey, but if you're reading this you're probably already aware of that.

I went to a popup by Retan so not a Laughing Heart review, but pleased you choose to support the industry letting popups use your premises. Nice atmosphere and will return to try Laughing Heart now I've found you.

Mixed feedback - food is above average but the staff are seriously under trained and unprepared. Our waitress was super anxious and made our experience v unpleasant. The gentleman running the downstairs bar had BO issues.

A hidden gem on Hackney road! We came for a birthday dinner and it was the perfect choice for a special experience. The atmosphere was unpretentious and intimate and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Each dish was unique and delicious, particularly the duck. Our server suggested a very interesting bottle of red that we thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely come again!

My my my what an incredible little place. On arrival, the very unassuming front fit in with the local area and doesn’t stand out but a hidden gem is truly hidden inside. The Maître D’ was fabulous when we arrived and sat us down even though we were early for our booking. Our waitress was an absolute charmer and extremely knowledgeable. We chose our dishes and also opted for the wine pairing which was divine. Each wine was carefully selected and matched the dish perfectly. We asked several questions while we were sat down and got great answers both times.

Excellent wine, easy enough to get a table, and some really strong dishes. Worth a visit for sure.
