It’s been quite a few years now since our last visit but last night we finally went back to the Mandarin Palace in my hometown of Hornchurch. I can honestly say that we won’t be leaving it very long before we return again. We enjoyed great Chinese food along with excellent friendly service from every member of the team. We also loved a couple of old school touches that reminded you of years gone by.Let’s begin with our arrival which really set the tone for the evening. It was as friendly as you could ever want before being escorted to our table. Once seated we were immediately brought a large helping of prawn crackers. We then ordered a pint of carlsberg (80s) and a glass of rose wine while we looked at the extensive menu.We decided that despite the appeal of the set menu’s we would order of the main menu to which the waitress was very helpful and said what order the food could be brought to the table. It sounded great so we left it with them. We started with the Gourmet Platter of Five Delicacies ( satay chicken , bbq spare ribs , pancake roll , sesame prawns on toast & crispy seaweed ). We followed this with the with the Assorted Steamed Dumplings. We now moved on to the main courses where we had the Dried Crispy Pork Belly with hot chilli & garlic , Spiced Chicken in garlic sauce , Mixed Vegetable Chow Mein & Spicy Singapore Fried Rice. All the dishes were perfectly cooked and full of flavour. We then moved to dessert and I was in for an old school treat when I saw the Fantastica on the menu. This is a crispy chocolate base with layered vanilla & caramel ice cream , caramel sauce and dusted with chocolate biscuit. I followed this with another treat as they did a Floater Coffee. This brought to an end an evening of great Chinese food with excellent friendly service that makes this restaurant a real credit to not only my hometown of Hornchurch but hospitality itself. I would definitely recommend a visit and for one can’t wait to return once again very soon.

Great Chinese food and very reliable for delivery through Uber Eats.

Great food and service. Inexplicably our sizzling dish lacked any hint of sizzle, but still tasted great.

We came here after a restaurant in hornchurch ignored us for 15 minutes and palmed us off even though we had a booking on our engagement day. Here Within the first 20 seconds we were seen to even though we didn’t have a booking, the staff were so attentive and caring and the food was outstanding, 10/10 service you can’t beat mandarin palace. Thank you to all the staff who work so hard to make people’s experiences better.

Myself and my family have been coming here for years and have always had a great time however last night was exceptionally good! My partner and i had dropped in without a booking hoping they would have a table available as we had just got engaged - they were so Accommodating, friendly and helpful they made the night even better !

Excellent service above and beyond to be honest. The food was very fast and we were treated with respect and courtesy throughout. Usually I begrudge paying service charges and feel companies should incorporate this into food prices for but this was a very rare occasion where I felt I would have tipped more than the service charge if a service charge was not in place. Highly recommended and our young kids really loved it there, the food was great and the staff gave them a lot of attention and freebies to keep them happy while waiting. Best service we've ever had in all of Havering.

Weve visited the Mandarin Palace many times but this was our last. We were a party of 4 and ordered the set meals from the menu. This dining option portion sizes have gotten smaller and smaller over the years. The quality was okay but some plates were quite bland. The waiting staff came to our table continuously...& I mean alot... to ask if we wanted more drinks. We were clearly still eating and drinking. It became quite intrusive. They could clearly see we still had drinks. They then added ÂŁ20 service charge....I'm happy to pay for good food and good service but I felt we got neither.

Meal was very nice but not sure if it was because it was quite in there but felt we were being watched constantly and as soon as you put your cutlery down they were at the table asking if you were finished, which made us feel we were being hurried. As I said at the beginning the food was very nice.

Very friendly staff. had a birthday dinner and they held our cake for us until we were ready and celebrated quite nicely. The atmosphere was lovely and they were always on top with our drinks. Starter was quick service but did take quite a while for our mains to arrive which was the only downfall. Overall was a very nice restaurant, quite convenient and would go here again

Very good without being great. Had the "usual" British Chinese fare... Prawn Toast, Spring Rolls, Satay Chicken starters - all v.good!; Mains - singapore rice noodles, chicken chow mein, egg fried rice with Szechuan chicken and a Kung Po Prawns - again, all good too! Desserts - However, not so good! Ice creams that have been in deep freeze for ages. Not soft at all / rock hard. Icicles in the ice cream too. Was the only let down. Also Worth noting- Parking is an issue. Very limited car parking. In short: RECOMMEND.
