Very good experience for Sunday Roast! Visited last Sunday for roast - restaurant setting very nice and the garden outside should be lovely in the summer. Customer service very good and good value for money. Will be back soon!

Best pub in Angel by far. Amazing selection of craft beer on tap and great pub classics on the menu. What more could you want...

Stuffy when crowded, so don't go at a peak time if you're trying to avoid the 'rona. Otherwise, nice and has a good covered garden area (with low/no chances of contracting any respiratory diseases that have as yet poorly-understood long term effects on your brain and other vital organs). Funky beers.

Hope they can’t delete the comment here, as they did on instagram ☺️Really awful customer service. My friends and I had an atrocious experience at this pub in Angel. The manager’s behaviour was just unacceptable; He kicked us out from a table on the basis that it was reserved, when it really wasn’t clear that it was a reserved table, (and if there was a reservation at all people were at least an hour late…); My friends and I had food and drinks on the table (!) and the manager rather aggressively approached me and my girl friends, he was shouting and at one point I dreaded being physically hurt. He even took my friend’s drink from his hands.I have been living in London for years and I had never experienced such an outrageous behaviour. If there was a reservation, we would have understood but the bottom line is that we were customers too! Simply put: this was a really poor and disappointing customer service. It was particularly offensive to note that the people who claimed to have a reserved table were clearly friends with the pub’s manager who was aggressive towards us.I had never witnessed or experienced such an abusive customer service in my entire life.It goes without saying: we will absolutely never, ever go back to this dreadful place. Never thought I would have to spend time and energy writing something like this but I feel it is important for other customers to know that this pub has been an abusive, aggressive and quite frankly the worst night out experience I have had in London.

Probably the best Roast I’ve had in years - a must in if you are in the area. (Great selection of beers too)

An ambient, vibrant pub. Always busy when we come but the staff were nothing but nice and friendly. Good selection of tap beers and the foods were nice too. Love the beer garden at the back, this is definitely one of my favourite pubs in Angel !!

The Earl of Essex has been one of my favourite pubs for years now. Exceptional beer selection, proper pub grub and quality service. It's always bustling, just as it should be. Fully recommended.

Lovely spit and sawdust aesthetic (bar the more contemporary artwork on the walls) but with a very lively vibe. Great selection of awesome beers, delicious food, friendly service and decent prices.

Nice cosy atmosphere and a wide variety of beers. Food choices are limited, though. We waited an hour for a fish and chips! (although they did apologise and give us a free drink).
