Zen Mondo in Islington

A very very lovely place. I feel so calm when I go here. So my sister discovered Zen Mondo just passing on the street, because of little pots in the window with little black cats on. And little pottery classes on Sundays was advertised and a Japanese restaurant Mon-Sat. So we went to make little pots! And it the most calming, enjoyable hour I've had for a long time. Just 12 people in the little restaurant turned pottery room. 2 weeks later we picked up our little pots and also came for dinner. We ordered 2 types of Green Tea in those satisfyingly heavy iron tea pots, miss soup (gf) sashimi, I highly reccomend the marinated mackerel, avocado and salmon seaweee rolls and udon noodles bowl. Definitely going back.

An unexpected hidden gem. We had (again) the perfect dinner. Service, sushi, miso soup, salmon role 5/5. Value for money.

One of the best Japanese place I’ve been to in London! You get what you pay for, great taste, authentic food and amazing flavours. I loved the pork belly and the agedashi tofu! The udon texture was spot on, just the right chewiness and the shabu shabu had some great quality thin sliced meat. I definitely would recommend this place! I can’t wait to go back again and try the sukiyaki :)

Food was good but for some reason the service was extremely slow. Hopefully not the case all the time.

A wonderful meal - the sushi was tasty and fresh. Service was very pleasant. Recommend the 2 day braised pork and lychee granite. We will be returning.

Excellent! Great food, great service, amazing ceramics and presentation and lovely atmosphere. The matcha ice cream had a very unique flavor which I never tasted before.

Great tempura! This place offers a quiet relaxing ambience with soothing music. Simple but tasty udon with great service.Edit post owner’s reply: Really striking the owner feels the need to rubbish the review considering I gave this place 4 stars, regardless of when I visited. I have been eating here for 3 years - your treatment of customers is rubbish. Do you feel the need to rubbish because you are not confident about your cooking or just frustrated because of the pandemic? Don’t get angry at your customers - I will not be eating here anymore. Good luck with your business, don’t be rubbish to your customers.

What a lovely restaurant this is. It is small but cute inside. They play relaxing music so you can enjoy talking to the people you are dining with. The food is excellent. I tried the vegetable tempura which was first class. The vegetarian selection isn't very large and is mostly tofu which I don't like. But i did enjoy what I ate. This is a great place for a romantic date.
