Hillgate in Kensington and Chelsea

We had the greatest time at The Hillgate! The pub is beautiful and very well located in this small, almost secret area behind Notting Hill Gate. The Sunday roast is a must try and the staff are incredibly friendly and kind. Plus they are dog friendly!

Between a 3 and a 4. Would agree with other reviewers: small portions for the price and overwhelmed service. Drinks could use a little more kick. Definitely a new restaurant still finding its feet but worth a try.

Sunday lunch was exactly as you would expect from a good gastropub. Portion sizes were on the large side so no need for starters. We sat outside and unfortunately got soaked when the wind shook the canopy and all the water it had collected onto us and our food. They did move us but whilst they apologised I felt either a free drink or dessert would have softened the blow of getting drenched!

Unfortunately the Hillgate did not live up to expectations. We had checked prior to booking that they could cater for gluten and dairy free intolerance. However it was disappointing to find that actually there were only one main course and no starters that were suitable and the kitchen was unwilling to make alterations to dishes to make them suitable. This made the experience most unsatisfactory. Also despite booking with 2 weeks notice we were given a table in ‘the corridor’ between the 2 rooms with a large plant hanging over our table, and when we asked if we could move were told no! The food was average and not at all remarkable. It was very cold in the pub and overall we had a most disappointing experience. Shame as I’m sure it’s a nice pub for a drink but we would not return for an evening meal.

I would definitely recommend visiting this pub for a delicious Sunday roast. The pub has a lot of natural light but is also cosy with a fire place (which was lit). We were given a good wine recommendation and finished with sticky ginger stem pudding (so good).

Had a great Sunday roast at the pub. The Manager, Jono, made himself known to us as soon as we sat down and ensured we had everything we needed and made the visit even better!

Bartenders *Arlind and *Pasquale made the evening a special time for everyone with their energy and attention, outstanding hosts, excellent drinks! Thank you gentlemen! Highly recommend the Hillgate for parties, or a night out in Notting Hill!

Love this pub - we hired the private room upstairs for a Christmas party of 30 this year and it was great. Amazing service from Jono - all the wine and water was topped up regularly, incredible 3 course meal - all the food was beautiful and delicious. The rooms itself is also great, we had an area for dancing, some space for drinks and a huge table to sit round! Throughly recommend visiting here!

Jono and his team at The Hillgate pub put on a wonderful evening for our annual Christmas bash! The effort and attention to detail was fantastic, it felt very festive and wholesome! The Christmas dinner/ roast was by far the best I’ve had at a pub. I’d also reccomend the private room to anyone looking to host a large gathering as it felt special to have our own space! There was lots of room and we had control of the music too which was perfect for a dance! Thank you very much to the Hillgate team for making our get together memorable - we plan to make a tradition and be back next year :)

We held our annual girls Christmas lunch in the upstairs dining room. Jono and Valeria went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. We'll certainly be back!
