Very very tasty Malaysian food that is welcoming to all people with a great location in Portobello. Every Malaysian restaurant has its own twist, and what I would say about Makan cafe is that everyone is happy who comes no matter their background… and that is not easy to achieve! A testament to the extremely kind and generous family that runs it!

Went we my husband to this Makan Cafe for lunch on the 10/2/22 - Thursday. Will impressed by the selections of Malaysian food/dishes. Either from ready cooked on displayed counter or order from menu. The server will amazing helpful although she was busy. She try her BEST to serve ALL. Highly Recommended for 💯% HALAL food too.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❤

Such good food and lovely staff! The portion sizes are great and the food is authentic. we weren’t waiting at all for our food. Definitely a must if your having a day at Portobello!!

My friend and I have a loving lunch at Makan today. We have been here a few times, the food is authentic, portion is generous, value for money, the owner and staff are always friendly. I had introduced to quite a few friends, they all enjoyed the M'sian food very much.

Went at around 6oclock in the evening, not too busy, 2 people. Food didn't come at the same time, left waiting 30mins by which time I had finished all my food!! I did mention this to cafe staff but it seemed to go over their heads. Worth trying if you are in the local area if you are looking for a home cooked Malay vibe. Food is halal. Cafe ambience. Noodles and coke my meal came to £10 - I don't feel this was worth it.

First time at this cafe. Authentic Malay cooking. Had Singapore laksa, char keow teow and roti canai. For drinks, we had teh tarik. Staff were very friendly. Managed to practise our Malay language! The cekodok was a hit with my son!

Good food, however I think service could be slightly improved. I waited for a long time at the counter before someone finally appeared from the kitchen area. To be fair it was early, a little before 10am. But still, if the shop is stated as "open", it's only right to have somebody at the counter.

Dropped in for brunch while traipsing around Portobello Road market.Had nasi lemak, chicken satay, roti canai and char kway teow, with teh tarik for drinks.5/5 for roti canai (light, fluffy and the curry dip showed mastery) and teh tarik.4/5 for CKT and satay.3/5 for nasi lemak.Would definitely come back to try other dishes on menu.
