Claylands Fish Bar in Lambeth

Really a 3.5 star rating. Tucked away off the main drag and round the corner from Oval Station. Surprised as a chip shop that they don't do buttered roll. (strange). But don't want to rate them for what that don't do, but focus on what they do. Oblong shaped chips, not bad at all, suggest give them a go

This is our fav local fish and chips shop. We have been ordering our fish and chips here for over 4 years and have never once been let down by the quality. The fish is always fresh and the chips fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside as they should be. The only draw back is the que when it's peak times .....but this is only further indication that the food is worth a short wait.

When I reclarified with the manager how long a fish would take he kicked off shouting if I 'understand English?' Which was rich coming from a guy who could barely speak it.I said I'd take my custom elsewhere and he shouted some profanities. This all happened whilst there were a number of customers waiting for food.People working there came out to apologise to me whilst the owner was still shouting to himself inside.Pretty sure he has mental/anger issues.From previous experiences the food is pretty low grade. Although it's superior compared to the 'manager'

They make their own chips, from fresh potatoes

Very good fish n chips. Number 1 or number 2 in my list for best fish n chips. I have tried many.

Lovely staff who were nice and friendly. Fantastic chips at a great price and copious portions !!! Correct thickness of chips and they're not too oily. Bring your own condiments to really amp up the chips.Would appreciate the transition to not using polystyrene boxes which cannot be recycled and less paper.Suggest to walk and eat chips around the local housing in the sunshine.

Maiden visit to this establishment. Initial inspections revealed a standard-looking fish bar. But the end product is clearly above average. The chips were first class, and I am hard to please when it comes to chips. In this case, cooked perfectly with a very fine, crispy outer layer and fluffy consistency beneath. A good balance of crispiness and sogginess with just the faintest suggestion of being moist but without being oily. Fish was slightly dry but very tasty nonetheless. Furthermore they appear to be providing non-diluted malt vinegar. A filling and delicious meal for a fiver.

Absolutely delicious!I am not too far from Claylands and get a small fish and chips on Friday nights sometimes. The small is still a quite large portion size and your fish and chips are fried at the time of order. Definitely worth the 10 ish minutes long wait! Staff are always very friendly too!

This place may not look flashy but they do a very good fish and chips. Prices are in the £6-7 mark for a decent portion. The fish is good quality, the batter could perhaps be a tiny bit crispier, but overall it's decent chippie and probably the best in Oval.
