The Black Dog Freehouse in Lambeth

Delicious burgers here! We both had the beef cheeseburgers and they were amazing. Good puddings too. It was really busy even though it was a Thursday night, so would recommend booking in advance. Very loud when we were there, with a nice upbeat atmosphere. Staff were super friendly.

A delightful pub nestled in a quiet corner of Vauxhall, not far from "The Office", home to our intelligence services so always a chance that James Bond will pop in for a pint after work! The eponymous dog guards from above the door. Several cask ales on offer and a variety of kegs available. A fine place to stop off for a drink and something to eat!

As I trudged through a dismal English afternoon lashed by a bitter wind and constant drizzle in complete darkness at 4:30 pm I was drawn to a faint glow in the distance. I was greeted by a warm atmosphere and a friendly smile. My fortitude was restored by a pint of ale and a generous meal and I was able to continue my journey northwards with renewed vigour.

A terrific place for a Sunday roast. Lots of windows so nice and bright during winter. The roasts are all generous serves and meat nice and pink which is not easy when turning out lots of meals. The staff were friendly and attentive when we went, and it was very busy. A great choice in beers. Very good for groups of all sizes and kid and dog friendly. Very impressed they do not charge for bringing a birthday cake. We celebrated a friends birthday and they served out the cake we bought as a surprise after we had eaten. They have a compact but charming beer garden out the back with lots of plants and heaters. Thank you for looking after us and our 17 month old son gives a big thumbs up too.

The Black Dog is an excellent pub near Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. The staff have always been welcoming and attentive, and the prices for a pint not too bad. In the summer it is especially nice with the outdoor seating area. As the park is across the road from the pub in the summer many people go across and sit down in the park to have their drinks, which gives it a very nice, chilled out vibe. The pub is also away from the main traffic like many pubs and so this adds to the relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff and great roasts. This is a lovely, family-friendly pub close to the train and tube but on a quiet side street near a park. I had trouble finding somewhere for 16 people including kids but they were able to arrange it here no problem. The booking was apparently only for 1h 45m but they were able to move things around for us so we could stay longer. I had the pork roast which was amazing, loads of gravy too! The only thing I would say is that maybe some of the pricier starters are a bit small and could be either cheaper or bigger. Overall, lovely food and great service, I would definitely go back.

You need to go here!! What a hidden gem this was! Lovely atmosphere, honestly surprised at how different and awesome the food choices were and how they came out was just as good. I had duck for dinner and even their bar snack scotch egg (with a soft yolk) was a total winner!

Lovely little pub with great selection of beers. We came here for some work drinks and food. The service was quick and the servers were very attentive. I had the Karage chicken, which was lovely the really mild spicy mayo was lush, the steak - rare with butter was amazing really tender and delicious and the brownie and pistachio ice-cream was epic, with a slight marzipan flavour - really delicious.
