Shepherd Neame - The Crown in Lewisham

Unfortunately our experience was very unpleasant. We booked a table for 8pm and was told we had to order at the bar which is acceptable as they said they only had 2 members of staff working. I got to the bar at 8:15 to order and was told the kitchen closes at 9 which again is acceptable, what was unacceptable was the attitude and tone of the waitress, she couldn't be bothered to serve us and clearly she had better things to do as she a terrible attitude. We had dinner quickly and ordered dessert at 8:50 but was told we could no longer order any hot drinks as it was closed for the night... we couldn't even order a tea at 8:50? Why say you open until 11 if things were shut off at 8:50. Completely absurd to me but surely it should have been said when we entered, if this had been the case we would have gone somewhere else. At 9:30 the music was turned off and the staff had their bags out and coats ready to close. We had not finished our dessert but felt we had to leave. It was just an extremely unpleasant, uncomfortable evening to say the least.1 star is for the really nice waitress that greeted us at the door and 1 star for the food. Will not be coming back to this place. If you want a nice, relaxing, comfortable evening... please don't bother.

I booked The Crown to have a meal for 7 after a funeral. I arranged that we could park our cars and we could go to the Funeral Directors. We came back to the Crown to have our meal and ordered off the menu. The staff were very accommodating, the food was lovely and it was hot. We were never hassled and the atmosphere was just right for us all to chat. A nice experience all round.

Sadly today we had a bad experience again.We had some very good experiences over the last year, which made us use this pub again.Prior to COVID we had not rated this pub as it seemed over priced for what you got. Since COVID it had felt like it had changed and we had some very good meals here.Therefore today we popped in adhoc for food and found the service and food not great. To start with a lot of tables needed clearing when we arrived and had to ask for ours to be wiped down. (Most free tables were in the same state).We ordered a starter to share, two roast beef dinners and a children meal. The starter had a slight burnt taste but we didn't complain as didn't want to make a fuss. The children meal to be fair you can't fault. The roasts arrived and the waitress lost her tongue piercing as she served them, therefore she took one back as she was concerned it was in the meal. We were then left looking for the bar with the waitress with one meal going cold and no explanation about the other or even cutlery for the first one. Therefore we sent it back because it was cold. Two meals arrived (one didn't have the mash on). When I said it was cold they offered to reheat it. We were refunded the main meals but we didn't eat much of it and needed to come away and get food at home. Therefore it ruin our evening. The service was slow, the starter plate and all plates were still one the table when we left, no one checked that everything was OK just left the table with plates on. Sadly it felt like it was very over priced and were hungry when we left.

Went there for my sisters wedding after party partyGreat place,customer service was fantastic. You can brings pets. Great variety of alcohol and mixers.Around 6pm the tavern got relatively quiet.Wish they did play some music louder but oh well

Best outdoor seating setup in the area - safe, warm and dry. Good service. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the food, although perfectly good, is a bit too expensive for what it is

We had a great evening at the Crown. The bar staff were friendly and helpful and the food was really tasty; I was particularly impressed by the meat-free burger. It was quiet enough on a Wednesday night that we were able to socially distance really well from others. The outdoor area looked fab and had blankets and heaters.

Relaxing beer garden - food smells great!My brother and I went back last week for an evening meal - wow! I had pork and apple sausages with veg in the most amazing, tasty sauce. Absolutely delicious. The staff are sooo friendly and go the extra mile. It’s dog friendly too, Ted loved the attention! Ticking all the boxes so far . . .

Lovely place, really friendly staff. Cater for all types of events. My brother held his wedding reception here and it was lovely! The food was excellent and portions were very generous for any wedding reception I've ever been to before! I know most people would not choose a pub venue in the first place for their wedding reception, but would honestly say, this was very well catered for, executed brilliantly and could not fault the venue, staff or food in the slightest! 👍🏽👌🏽👏🏽 Have been here before for a different function and the experience was that good that we came back. Good parking facilities. Has indoor and outdoor facilities. Would recommend.

Lovely, friendly pub. Really nice food & friendly service, although you have to order through the app, which was a bit of a pain, (much prefer table orders being taken). However, really enjoyable garden with heaters.

This is a post lockdown review. Went for dinner on 3-Aug with wife and son. Food was well prepared, nicely presented and tasty; the staff were extremely pleased to see us. The pub has good social distancing rules so no problem with hygiene. Still a little bit empty and staffing levels are low but it looks like a recovering business.
