Hanana Sushi Bar in Richmond upon Thames

When the reviews said “the best sushi I’ve ever had”, I knew I had to try this place.Long have I searched for the authentic experience of a small eatery with sushi handmade in front of you. This 6-seater paradise will probably be the best sushi you’ve ever eaten, certainly in the UK. With sashimi salmon that glitters like gold and exciting rolls with enticing mixes you wouldn’t find at your run of the mill sushi joints, it is divine. For the quality of food this place delivers it is frankly a bargain. The freshness of fish is unrivaled and you will be reminded what sushi should actually taste like (hint: it’s nothing like what you can buy in a supermarket). The excellence of food, with its careful presentation, would be enough to revisit this place a 100 times, but coupled with the outstanding and beautiful service of the host - it is a jewel in Richmond’s crown. I just wish I lived nearer. (But let’s be real, it’s probably best I don’t - I’m not sure I’d eat much else if I did.)

I would definitely recommend Hanana Futo which is the signature design by the chief. The taste is perfectly balanced and rich in texture. I will definitely come back and hope to meet the secret super star!

Awesome rolls and sushi at its price. Would especially recommend the hanana roll which is a chef’s special.

The food was absolutely stunning and delicious! Friendly staff, would recommend to come early as it gets busy and they only have 6 chairs.

I was intrigued, given the great reviews and would love a delightful local sushi place. However, I would say this place is just average and one notch higher than Itsu, as the sushi is served at room temperature vs being from a refrigerator. However, the quality of the fish and texture of the rice is nothing to write home about.

A gem of authentic Japanese food in a surprising location. Great food and great service, if there were 6 stars I would use it now. Recommend the Hanana futomaki, really rich and different.

If you come to Richmond and don't visit this place then I'm not sure what's wrong with you. All jokes aside, this place has some of the best authentic sushi. So fresh, and the specialty roll from the chef will leave you coming back again and again. You will not be disappointed.

Best tempura I have had in London. Owner was friendly. Food fresh. Very small shop - 6 seats round the counter. Takeout is probably better than eat in.

Loved this tiny sushi joint by Richmond station. Such a surprise find. They have about 6 coverings but they do takeout and service is fast so every one hour or so you should be able to dine in. The sushi is good, not amazing, but competitively priced and the ambiance is lovely. They also serve various hot dishes like tempura, beef and chicken.
