Blackfriars Wine Bar in Southwark

A great wine bar... truly! Where you, the customer, and the wines... are the important focus. A recent visit reminded me why this has been a regular haunt for over 20 years. And the standard is as good as it ever was.When I worked around the corner 20 years back, I used to hold team meetings here; and lots of team and family socials too. I loved the lunches. It's reassuring to find not much has changed in terms of the focus on a warm welcome, unpretentious hospitality, great wines at prices that won't make you weep, and all in an atmospheric setting under the railway arches. It's very London, in a hidden gem sort of way.Come on... treat yourselves; bring some friends or colleagues and enjoy super, really well-chosen wines in a great space, with lovely, friendly staff. A tucked-away gem of a bar. I love it - you're gonna love it too!

I like it here it's usually not too busy the staff are super lovely and they have ALL the wine.. not so great for cocktails, but there's a hint in the name

Love this place. Gets busy on a Friday, but otherwise a perfect place for a quiet drink. Extensive by-the-bottle wine selection (by the glass is more limited). The owner/manager is hugely welcoming and always happy to help finding you a table or a bottle of wine! Perfect place for a catch up with a friend.

Excellent wine and delicious pizza. Very accomodating staff if you e-mail ahead and ask if they can reserve a table for you. Great place to go for after-work drinks!

Great wine selection and pizzas too. It's such a lovely bar and really friendly bar staff. Only gripe is the music. It often plays loud dance music- even when it is not busy inside. But it is good for after work drinks and often you can get a table easily as it is off the beaten track.

Personally I don't know what the type about. It's a run down, dark wine bar that smells a bit musty. The wine selection is just ok, alot of it mass made brands , lower quality like Louis Latour burgundy.

Great little hidden wine bar with a good selection of wines. The staff however isn't the most knowledgeable and took some time to find the bottle that I had ordered. The wines are decently priced and the food selection is basic but very well done. Closes a bit too early for my taste but what can you do?

Fine small and atmospheric winebar without any of the normal (somewhat) posh or stylish decor and the "i am here to be seen" attitude. Upretentious and friendly staff and the food is ordinary but in the good way! Wine is not plentiful and indeed quite uprententiously presented with the wine area and no further description. It is what it is. Which was a nice change to any of the long and maybe corny descriptions that some winebars tend to envelop themselves in. All in all very recommendable!

A hidden gem with friendly staff!My wife and I visited this great wine bar the last day in 2013 on our trip to London for celebrating the New Year’s Eve. What a hidden gem!They have a great wine menu with reasonable prices and the staff is very welcoming!The interior is just amazing! (see my attached photos).Extremely good value for money! Great place. They have some really good wine list with a lot of variety and also offer some delicious side dishes, that perfectly go with your drink. Definitely worth a visit.
