Gong in Southwark

Eating and drinking in a lovely and relaxed atmosphere among the clouds with the spectacular views of London. Few points to note: booking allows an hour and a half, the minimum spend of £30 a person, the access can get a little bit confusing.

View magical, atmosphere captivating. I would put one more star if the service would be better, and the team more attentive. And I would put the final stars if I wouldn’t be disappointed also bt the £15 fries. Honestly, removing the Parmesan from it. Macdonald if giving better fries for £2. It was overcooked what is not acceptable for this kind of restaurant. However, I took 3 other plates, they were delicious. I spent with my partner a lovely evening..

We came here for a birthday celebration, we were greeted with a small complementary champagne cocktail. The table had a good view and our special booking instructions were met. Momo was a highlight of our visit, he gave cocktail recommendations based on our taste, and he made our visit much more special and memorable. Would come again!

As drinks go its very average and very expensive. But as venues go it stands above nearly all I have been to. Combined this is a 5 star location where you get to experience the shard for an evening over 2 hours. The service was impeccible and we got some great pictures of the city. Well worth doing once in London and I would recommend it to anyone.

Great experience to try at least once when visiting London. Eating and drinking amongst the clouds with the best views of London. The bar staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. Few points to note. Minimum spend of £30 a person (which is easy to achieve), and your booking allows an hour and a half which is plenty of time to enjoy the views and ambiance. There is a huge selection of cocktails and sprits, with one or two wines, beers and ciders. Access can get confusing but you go into the Shangri la main entrance and see the concierge on the right side who will guide you from there.

I enjoyed lunch at the Gong Bar on the 52nd floor of The Shard, one Saturday in August. There was a Ferrari Roma parked at the entrance to the Shangri-La, which set the scene nicely. It took 2 lifts to get us up to the Gong, and we were sat by the window overlooking Tower Bridge. The view of London across Tower Bridge is well worth the visit. The Gong feels like a hotel, and although it has style and a nice ambiance, it lacked a little bit of character and felt slightly sterile. The staff were a little rushed, and we had to chase them to take our order. The lady who took our payment at the end was very friendly. The food was good quality and we enjoyed our cocktails. In terms of the clientele, the people at the table to my right were wearing t-shirts and trainers, whilst those to my left were wearing sharp business suits. Well recommended.

Disappointed overall I’m afraid. Definitely not worth the money. The views aren’t great from that high up either (London is pretty flat!) - perhaps best go at night/sunset if you do. The cocktails were horrid. The whole place had a feel of “who’s who and wants to be seen” and I never felt relaxed or comfortable.

After dinner at The Oblix I had booked a table here to try some cocktails afterwards. Neither of us being massive drinkers found the cocktails quite strong for our tastes, but they do have a selection of other drinks and can make straight forward cocktails should you ask them.Would agree with some other reviews that coming here when it's dark outside is a very good idea as you get a fantastic view of the city.

Good service, friendly and genuine. Food was great and well presented (California Rolls sadly were not available).A strange quirk was that we were very militarily managed to be in and out in 90 minutes. Booking policy is understandable, it just seemed a bit of a missed point in our case: we had champagne (even showed up early in the hope we could get some pre-dinner cocktails, to no avail), ordered food and tequila as a digestif and were quite ready to spend the rest of the evening there ordering more things (which was 1 hour past our allotted time).Policies and rules notwithstanding, common sense might have prevailed for the better cause.

The view is stunning - the restaurant is located on the 56th (if I’m not wrong) floor of the Shard, although it’s quite difficult to take pictures there as windows are blocked by tables and they reflect everything from the inside. Food was great - although portions are small, prices are high and the minimum spend is 30£ per person, excluding the 12.5% charge on top.Oh, and I have to add - check out the bathrooms for men and women if you ever visit Gong, they probably cost as much as the restaurant itself.
