Great to stop off for a coffee after or before a walk up to the lake. A bit dear but the quality is always good, coffee needs to be hotter especially in colder months. Please go back to using old fashioned cash again, otherwise it will be digital currency before very long!

It used to be lovely place to have lovely lunch and cake after a walk but they now serve uninspiring finger food in single use cardboard dishes and take away cups with plastic lids. Why the switch to single use dishes when you have a kitchen and dishwasher? The staff is still lovely though.

Shocking place. The service is painfully slow. Yes it was reasonably busy but there are plenty of staff to be able to cope. The coffee is too expensive for its mediocre taste as well as being weak and Luke-warm. They don’t understand the difference between a toastie and a piece of toast. I didn’t eat-in but the people that did have to use plastic cutlery.I won’t be coming back here and I urge you to avoid.

Butlers Retreat hosted the most amazing wedding for us in August 2021! Everything went just as planned, the food (Middle Eastern sharing platters) were delicious and the staff was so professional and friendly. We had 28 guests, who all were very impressed, including a gluten-intolerant guest who felt especially taken care of. A big shout out to Eva who managed the evening so well! Highly, highly recommend for events.

The sandwiches were awful, with a couple of merger crips on the side. The toilets were filthy. The staff didn't appear to be happy or helpful.Good location for walks, but other than that don't waste your money.

We went there to have soup for lunch, but they do not serve it. The coffee was good. All the cakes left had nuts. My partner had the raspberry and almond cake, which was on the dry side. You can get a free parking permit when you order from BR. Otherwise you need to down load an app and pay online. Accessible parking is available on the same side as BR.

No complaints about this cafe, handily placed after walking around Connaught lake and surrounding area Good tea, and the chocolate brownie was outstanding. Card only payments, good covid rules, toilets sparkling!

Sandwiches are being served from a hatch around the back. We've have numerous times been to the Larder in Wanstead and I believe this is run by the same people. We sat outside and enjoyed a sandwich and crisps before a walk to Connaught Waters. A beautiful area for a nice walk around the lake. Lots of trees and bushes for the kids to climb. Quite popular with cyclists. We'll definitely be back.Ample parking opposite, I couldn't really ask for much more..
