Star & Garter - London in Wandsworth

I wouldn't usually write a review, however I am very disappointed and felt it is necessary to inform anyone considering hiring this venue for a private function in the future.My friend hired the venue for a christening, i will begin with the positives.It is a very beautiful venue.Unfortunately, this is the only positive.On arrival we were met with VERY stressed, manic and sweaty (DRIPPING) staff. The room was UNBEARABLY HOT, this meant a lot of guests left within the hour of arriving! (Pregnant and elderly guests).We asked about the air con within 5 minutes of arrival and was told by staff they were too busy to deal with this yet and wasn't sure if it was working?! No windows were allowed to be opened.Food was mediocre - considering the amount that was charged!Manager (bald guy) aggressively took a drink out of a young mans hand (which was lemonade) demanding he showed ID before being corrected by another member of staff.Drinks are expensive, staff were rude/unhelpful and venue was unbelievably hot!!!!!Overall, myself and guests were very disappointed and feel we should have been informed before the day on the air con issue, we then could have at least attempted to salvage the day by purchasing fans or providing air con ourselves.

Nice decor and view of the river. However out of 3 toilet cubicles in the ladies, only one had toilet paper and even then the roll was on the floor. Not ideal for such an "up market" place. The private rooms for hire looked nice

Excellent gin bar - great selection & the cheese board was delicious

I'm not quite sure what's happened to this place. It's had many incarnations over the years but the current one doesn't seem to be working. It looks very stylish but is always half empty. A pub in such a prominent place should be heaving on a Friday night but it struggles to fill up. They seem to concentrate more on the weddings and parties upstairs and have neglected the bar side. The decor and layout feels more hotel lobby than comfy pub which isn't helped by guests for the functions walking through. They should designate the back entrance for the functions so you don't feel like you're in a thoroughfare watching people going to have a better time than you! Maybe they'd get more customers if they served a full menu instead of just charcuterie platters. They should also promote all their live acts. Sometimes they've had live acts with no mention of them online. Lots of missed potential.

We held our school reunion here last night and couldn't have picked a better place. Very accommodating and a great selection of beers and spirits. Thank you for a great night from all in the St Marks Fulham Class of '88

There is nowhere better to spend an afternoon enjoying a bottle of wine and delectable cheese overlooking the river.

We had our wedding reception at the ballroom of the Star and Garter in October and couldn't have been more happy with our choice of venue. Dora, the event coordinator, was just incredible and made the whole planning process extremely easy and enjoyable. All went perfectly on the day; the food was just delicious, the staff were very friendly and attentive and Dora was there to ensure everything run smoothly. Can highly recommend this venue for weddings.

Had our wedding reception in the function room here. Dora and the team were incredible. Knowledgeable staff about their platters, food options, cheese and wine combinations etc. They helped set up and clear away - everything went without a hitch. We were incredibly happy with their care and attention.

This is a great bar and restaurant. Yes, it's right on the river so ideal for summer but I really love this place on a winter's day. It's a lot quieter and you can share a bottle of red looking out at the Thames next to a roaring fire. Staff are great and you have to check out the charcuterie selection - you won't be able to miss it anyway!Good option for a lazy Sunday with your other half or a friend.
