Thali & Pickles in Wandsworth

I ordered on a Monday at 5pm and the food took one and a half hours to arrive. After an hour and 10 minutes I rang to ask how much longer and the guy who answered after speaking to someone else for a moment came back and muttered something I couldn’t hear then said ‘10 minutes’ and put the phone down not even waiting for a response. So rude and not at all apologetic for the delay. When the food finally arrived it was freezing cold. I only live five minutes from them. Bad service is one thing but rudeness is unforgivable. Never again.

From the moment we walked through the door we received first class service. The staff were considerate, thoughtful and friendly. The surroundings were clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the Indian film music playing in the background.The food was fantastic. I ordered the vegetarian Thali. This was the.best Thali since my visit to India many years ago. My husband had Lamb Dhansak and thoroughly enjoyed it. The restaurant was recommended to us and they were so right. I would go every night of the week if I lived near enough..

Ordered a few things - most were quite nice,Thali was delicious, especially the chicken dish with that. Naan bread was good.The Kathi roll was also decent.However the butter chicken dish was disappointing. Not quite as good as many others I have tried.

Went on Fri 4th Feb 2021, the manager served us and was very cold and off with us, with none of the hospitality Indian people are famous for, then he got the order wrong and came back twice to argue that it was my wife's fault when it was clearly his mistake, at the end of the meal I approached him about this and he said it was the chef's fault this time ! When I got the bill he walked over and took it out of my hand and said he would remove the cost of the dish that was a problem, a few min later he returned and threw the bill on our table and walked off without saying a word, when I looked at the bill I saw it was the exact same as before with nothing removed as he had said he would, I called him over to question this and he said "the till wouldn't let me remove the dish" well firstly why didn't you explain that when returning the bill to the table instead of just throwing it down and walking off ? And secondly he could have voided the whole bill and put it through again minus the dish he said he would remove, unfortunately there were other issues too and they all centred around the manager wearing the glasses, what a rude man, before lockdown we used Thalia and pickles a lot however we will never go again now as even the quality of food is not what it used to be and the disgusting level of service from the manager that night is unacceptable, Indian people are usually the gold standard for hospitality however this manager made a special evening into a miserable experience that I do not wish to repeat, I refuse to give my money to substandard business that do not deliver, when more people do the same and it starts to hit them in the pocket maybe then they will return to Thier once high standards and get rid of this joker parading as a manager that thinks it's acceptable to treat paying customers this way. Quality and taste of food has dropped drastically! Ordered a few weeks back via deliveroo. They advertised 50% off the entire menu and the portion sizes were less than 50%.The Paneer & matar makhani is described as spicy on the menu but was very sweet and we could not eat it. Lamb bhuna and Sarah paneer were okay.Not sure if the kitchen has changed hands as we have been dine in customers and have ordered delivery previously and were very disappointed with the food this time.

Sadly the food was the WORSE I have tried in LondonTASTLESS , COLD and LATE ALL of my food was runny they seemed to have cook fried my food in a pre made tomato, spice sauce.I see why the restaurants is always empty when I pass itI am shocked that they carry on. Lovely food. Not sure why it appears now just to be takeaway food only. Hopefully, they'll reopen it as a restaurant again. It's a great cosy place to eat. Lively atmosphere too.

Terrible taste and quality even at 50% off, avoidSaw a promotion on deliveroo but they clearly use their worst ingredients and give you less“King” Prawns they used were small ones you find at supermarket with no flavourPaneer was awful with 3 tiny pieces that didnt even taste like paneerNaan was very dense ans not doughyPoppodoms were about the only thing redeemableBetter off getting a microwavable curry from waitrose!

Nice food, however ordered via Deliveroo which said it would take 30 minutes to arrive. An hour and a half later the food had not arrived. I then phoned to ask where the order was and said please can I order an extra naan bread (approx cost £1), the person on the phone said if I wanted to order this I would have to place a whole new order through Deliveroo, for 1 naan bread? Bizarre. I mean as the order was SO late you would have thought it would have been thrown in- we have also ordered from here previously and again waited almost 2 hours for delivery. Will not be ordering from here again and do not recommend.

Now reopened for dining in after a lockdown makeover, Thali and Pickles are still awesome. The service was really friendly and the refurbishment has modernised the look of the place to make it lighter and brighter. From the tamarind dip with the poppadoms through to the well balanced heat in my lamb korahi everything was excellent. Hope they thrive post lockdown, we'll be going back for sure.
