Nice wee hotel in a great location right on the waters edge. Friendly staff at reception and in the bar / function room.Fantastic views from our room and even though it was above the road, there was absolutely no noise.Huge and really tasty cooked breakfast in the morning. Will definitely be going back.

Food was nice pub grub and those that had Sunday roast enjoyed it. However, service needs improvement. We were a large table, but we had pre booked and pre ordered and despite this, had to wait a long time indeed between courses.

Went in for a drink and were told they were busy, but would come to table and take order. Sat for ages, watched them clear other tables, nobody came near this take our order. Eventually left very disappointed as had hoped new owners were doing a better job.

What a fab change and improvement due to the new ownership which is like a breath of fresh air. Huge improvements to the menu including welcome vegan and gluten free options. The portion sizes were generous and food delicious. Staff were really attentive and great to see it so busy on a January weekend. We will be back soon!

Great old pub and hotel here, recently revamped with friendly welcoming host and an attractive menu. Enjoyed great fish and chips here today. Well worth a visit .Will be back

Had a lovely "pub lunch" after a bracing walk from Rockcliffe. The food is amazing and all of us soggy humans and very wet dog made to feel very welcome. Highly recommended and it has a real fire

Have never been under the previous ownership so cannot compare, but from what we saw, ate and drank today we can certainly recommend. Following a lovely walk through the Dalbeattie forest, ending up at Kippford we decided to treat ourselves to a pub lunch, and a rest and a couple of pints for our weary feet (muddy walking boots did not raise any eyebrows). The Guinness was good, as was the Harviestoun 'Bitter and Twisted' (BTW, please get Schiehallion in too!!).It was busy (as was the whole of Kippford. How come? Extra tourism from the Hawthorn Tree??) and the front dining room/bar was full but we were seated in the other dining room which also filled up, so this is a popular place! The food was excellent (pub food litmus test - burger and steak pie, both nailed!) and the portions were large and well presented.Staff helpful and friendly. A bit of a wait to get our bill, but as I said, the place did fill up so that's fine. Can't wait to go back, after resting our feet!

Revisited the Anchor today to see how it was doing now the new owners have had chance to make a difference. Really impresses when you walk in, bright, nicely set out, roaring fire , enthusiastic staff. So much improvement over the previous managementWell done indeed .. Ab Fab spot 😎

We have been visiting The Anchor Hotel for many years as it's such a picturesque spot and lovely for a cool drink on those sunny days. This year we were nicely surprised to see wonderful vegan options on the menu. The Mediterranean Tart with sweet potato fries was wonderful followed by the cheesecake.Keep up the great work, please.

Not many places to eat out in Kippford but the Anchor is one I would recommend. Comfortable surroundings, good menu, excellent, well presented food (generous helpings) and good service. Reasonable prices as well. If you are in that neck of the woods, well worth a visit.
