We booked at The Blacksmiths Shop for the handfasting ceremony, it was so lovely, could not fault it all. It was only myself and my husband so we thought we would just have a nice wee drink together to celebrate, so we went to the bar, no one there to serve us...we had to wait a good while before someone appeared. We ordered 2 drinks, first one he gave me a small bottle of tonic water instead of soda, when I asked for it to be changed he didn't seem happy and refunded me £1 even though the bottle of tonic was £2.50! And the soda was draught. My husband ordered a pint of lager to which he got about 3/4 of a pint as the keg had run out...the barman's reply was "the kegs ran out and I don't know how to change it so Il just refund you a couple of pounds" I also asked for ice to which my reply was "I don't have any, do you really need it as it'll take me a wee while to get it as I've got other things to do as we are so busy" he eventually came back with ice after I had drank most of my warm drink, my husband's short pint was terrible as it was basically the dregs of the barrel. All in all a very disappointing experience after such a lovely celebration, our plan was to stay in that area all day but after that we decided to go elsewhere, we went down to The Gretna Inn and had a wonderful day.

Great place to visit but the history is better and why not unfortunately already married but to steal a kiss under the kissing gate is wow .

·

Lovely breakfast, food was nice and hot. Plenty of seating and also outside seating, very clean. Friendly staff, definitely worth visiting.

We stopped off to have a light bite today. Staff were friendly & helpful. We had a turkey cranberry stuffing baguette which was warm and fresh ( + a side of gravy).

Went here on 24th April 2022 for lunch. Soup was very watery and tasteless. Bread was nice. Coffee was tasteless. My husband said his bacon tasted like it had sat out all morning. This place looks nice but take a picnic!

Food wasn't particularly warm. For a "major" Scottish tourist attraction i was amazed to see cornish pasty on the menu and no haggis !!!

Stopped for a quick lunch on way back home. Was very disappointed as most shops were closed, even toilets. Blacksmiths restaurant was open but had very little to offer. We had some soup which was fine but daughter is veggie + no one to ask. Very different from last time we were there, perhaps it was because it was Sunday or maybe Covid.

We had the cream tea with some family after our wedding and we all thought it was amazing the sandwiches were all fresh and the cakes were lovley and the scones were the best I've ever had . Made a special day that little bit better . Would definitely recommend

Someone recommended Gretna Green as a stop off when travelling along M74.It's really busy, nearly full car park, many coaches and literally 3 minutes from the motorway. It's a popular place yet I literally don't know why. It's just like a motorway services in terms of motorway noise and motorway prices. There is history and if that's your thing, or you want to get married in a registry office then, it offers that. Otherwise, make Carlisle your stop on this North/South bound journey.Food is okay, but £7.99 for a bit of gammon, some warmed oven chips and some really terrible 'vegetables' is far too much. The vegetables is my main grumble with this price. The baked potato, with tuna and some meagre wilted salad at £4.99 isn't so bad.Food was okay, but I definitely wouldn't stop here again or recommend it to anyone else.
