The cheese and salmon is nice enough, but the food (sandwiches etc) are prepared and over priced for what they are. Was expecting something befitting the setting and maybe a wee cafe, it's basically an overpriced sandwich shop.

Mediocre place. Tea making facility wasn't great having to open silly wee fridge which had a carton of milk which was half empty with small pipe into machine and a water type bottle of milk. Nothing at all special. Didn't look overly clean. Girl was just about okay. Not particularly helpful would not go back.

Excellent service, we only popped in for a cup of tea and found the lady behind the counter so helpful and friendly. She offered us a taste of their trout and smoked salmon, we ended up buying a bagful for the freezer! What a delightful experience. We had the plain smoked salmon for supper and it was outstanding. What a nice surprise!

Service was great, very friendly and helpful, ploughman's cheeseboard was gorgeous, beautiful place to sit and eat, would recommend.

·

The smoked fish looked good, but slow service and distinctly mediocre cafe. Machine coffee, tasteless cakes and no hot food. Overall a bit of a disappointing stop-off.

·

Despite signs there's not much happening here. Cafe is curtailed - make your own tea/ coffee. Castle closed too. If you want smoked fish try the Galloway smoke House, just up the road!

We've been here so many times! Today we were taking a day trip to Ayr (from Northern Ireland) and we detoured an hour (2hours if you count driving from Marbury up to Ayr too!) so we could eat at Marbury smokehouse! My personal favourite is the Ultimate Fish Bun with smoked salmon and trout with Marie Rose sauce (my husband likes the same with the tarragon sauce) it comes with chips (beautifully fresh and crispy without a trace of grease) and fresh coleslaw. Our kids had smoked salmon with olive oil, lemon and dill. It's so worth visit... We bought smoked salmon and trout to take home too)The staff are really nice and very attentive... Checking we were happy with everything quite a few times. The desserts look truly yummy 😋 but we're too stuffed with fish to have any spare room at all this time!

We stopped here for late lunch and sat outside in the castle courtyard with our 2 dogs. The food was delicious and plentiful with a choice of dishes showcasing the on-site smokery. You're free to wander around the small castle and can take home some of the produce from the deli counter.

Stopped here for a break from driving and found a hidden gem. Food was amazing in the bistro and good selection of smoked produce available to buy. There is also a castle that is free to explore which my little boy loved...well worth a visit
