Shelter on the Square in Dumfries & Galloway

We came here for breakfast after an overnight stay in Dumfries and we were very happy. It was a buffet breakfast which we prefer to the one where you have to order your hot food.4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids) were well fed and set up for the day for under £20.Staff were, welcoming, friendly and helpful.

We had a table booked for 8.30pm. On arrival we were told it would take an hour at least to get our food. 3 of us ordered sirloin but received rump. Having waited over the hour we accepted the meal. We then ordered desserts. A staff member told us the chef had left but she would make them for us. Then we were advised only vegan ice cream left. We received them at the table and a few minutes later told we were to eat them in the bar where there was no seating as they had to get the tables ready for breakfast. Complained to the manager but would have been better speaking to the wall. Will never eat there again.

Came up on Sunday with family for a wedding with family. Requested a table to watch the football when booking which was not acknowledged nor provided. No food available at all from the.grill eg steak, burgers gammon, no Mac n Cheese No Sunday dinners (on a Sunday!!!) basically very limited food choice! ! Very poor and disappointing. The one star was for the limited food that was available wasn’t too bad.

Pit stop on the way north. Straightforward, good quality food at a reasonable price. Exceptional service from waitress Chloe!

I'm giving it four stars based on the fact that for what it is, it's above average. By that, I mean it's a chain restaurant on the side of a busy road, so it's not fancy by any means, but the menu was varied, including lots of vegan options, the prices are reasonable, and it's all perfectly acceptable. The thing that elevates it the most though is the staff - we were staying in the adjoining Premier Inn for three nights with a very large group, so we opted to eat in the restaurant every night, and the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly - especially given we were perhaps a tad raucous at times. So, all in all, I definitely rate this place 🙂

Didn't have gammon, fish and another thing, so was very disappointed.Maybe have a sign up saying so, as it was us a party of 2 and an other table of 3 ask for gammon.Service was a little slow and female that Service us wasn't the tidy, Didn't see a name badge.First impression not good, I was in the catering industry for 20 + year, in all area washing up to head chef and front of house

Some beers and lagers not available. Soft drinks especially overpriced, more than £2 for a can of cream soda and over £4 for a beer. Average food for above average price.

Booked in for Mother’s Day treat, should have went elsewhere! Service was very slow and most things out of stock, the chicken dinner myself and daughter ordered was disgusting the gravy smelt terrible, the pudding took 35 minutes to arrive the boy would rather clean empty tables than serve us. We will not be back.

Very poor customer service. Booked a table here on Friday night. Waited by reception area to get seated but just ignored by staff. Walked up to bar and still ignored my staff. Finally manager got some one to seat us.Food was OK. Both the mains and puddings ordered were out of stock and had to be reordered.When the pudding finally came, the staff then started going round the restaurant hoovering.

We had a lovely meal & the staff were great. Everything was clean but minor details like no toilet rolls was rather disappointing.
