Absolutely no ambience. The restaurant was cold - the fire wasnt lit, there were no candles on the table, and poor cold overhead lighting throughout. Front of house staff were rude and standoffish. The restaurant was basically empty on a Saturday, and I soon found out why.Paid £6.95 for 1 small slice of watermelon for the starter. My chicken was burnt and dry. Chips - which were actually french fries - were from a packet. Staff were kind enough to not charge for my burnt main course, but even so, it was still £100 for 3 mains, 4 starters and 1 drink. If you are charging these prices the quality has to be great as well, and it sadly wasn't.I would say that the 2 table service waitresses were lovely and empathetic! They were the only positive thing I can remark upon. All in all, incredibly disappointed and would advise to avoid at all costs.

We only called in for a coffee and hot chocolate, but what a lovely environment. Welcoming with a wood burner and some good looking items on the menu. Soft modern music playing. On a wet day it was great.

Friendly staff, looked after us and our dog. Food excellent, definitely go again. Would recommend the steak pie and mash!

Lovely pate, tasty pie and good service. 3 people. 3 starters. 3 mains. 3 non alcoholic drinks tea for two £65. Great eaterie in a lovely Galloway town.

Stopped by here whilst on holiday for a family lunch. Food was excellent, well priced, restaurant was extremely clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice and cosy place with a log burner. Could not fault it! Wish there were places as good as this back home :)

We called in for a beer and and a glass of wine after a cold walk, and were welcomed by a helpful member of staff and a log fire to warm us. We noticed that The Ship Inn seemed to be a good place to eat and stay.

What a wee gem of a place. Nice quality food, surroundings and friendly staff. Oh and a log fire to enjoy your dram in front of. Used it numerous times. Lovely.

Good night out but only one vegetarian option (and it was quite bland) . :( However staff great and it's dog friendly.

Unfortunately we were given the table in the bar even though we booked a table, for four eight days before, people came into the bar area with dogs as we were eating our main course, definitely not ideal. The meal was good but personally I don't want to be eating in a meeting area with noise and animals.
