Excellent in all areas. From excellent parking, beautiful surroundings and tastefully furnished and decorated to good toilets. The ambiance was good the room was bright and airy and of a pleasant temperature. Two stunning long burners adding a touch of class and cosy welcoming atmosphere. All staff were very friendly, attentive and accomodating and all were well presented and wearing masks properly. The Menu was well set outs with a good selection of food and beverages from local suppliers. They have provided a good choice for all palates and catering for those that have dietary requirements. Our order was taken in a timely manner. I chose the carvery and I was not disappointed. With a selection of two meats, 3 vegetables, both boiled and roasted potatoes, gravy, Yorkshire puddings and horseradish my meal was hot and delicious. The beef was nicely done, tender, melt in your mouth, certainly a good quality cut of meat. Excellent Yorkshire puddings and perfect roasted potatoes. The desserts and sweet offerings were all extremely tempting. All homemade and off a high standard.Reasonably priced for the quality and quantity. The Old School House is definitely worth a visit in the beautiful rural surrounding of Dumfries and Galloway.

Extensive menu which catered for all tastes. Home baked cakes and scones etc looked delicious. Very friendly and helpful staff. Have already booked a return visit to sample the home baking.

Absolutely brilliant, can’t recommend highly enough. We spent a few days in Castle Douglas for winter break and noticed this place after driving past a few times and decided to stop in on our last day.Despite being a random week day in the middle of Jan, it was surprisingly busy, most the tables had been reserved.Staff were not just that fake kind of polite from forced customer service, but genuinely nice. They were warm and friendly. The food was amazing, I opted for the salad with fish and meat and it was delicious. So fresh, wonderfully presented and so much flavour and much more than I could manage (looking around at other orders, it seemed generous portion sizes were common). Husband had the sausage and bacon pie and he too was very enamoured.

First class food and delightful staff. We visited for a late breakfast but ended up going for the festive turkey dinner and a local beer. We were really pleased to have stopped there quite by chance on our way to Whithorn. Could not fault anything about the place.

Absolutely fantastic hidden gem. Actually near drove passed it. We came upon it by chance and now we will definitely go out of our way to go again and again and probably again 😂. You simply must try their home made chips. They are like celery sticks in shape and they are lovely and I'm not a chip lover. I had the quiche and it was homemade and a treat. The service was excellent and the atmosphere within the school room had an old world feeling. Reminding you of years gone bye

OMG..... if that was the last meal I ever had, i would die happy. I had the breakfast and it was delicious. Haggis and black pudding were to die for. The coffee is really nice and the staff are amazing. Would recommend a thousand times.

Easy access from main road, good sized car park, lovely old building with high ceiling. Selection of delicious cakes and tray bakes as well as a full lunch menu & desserts.
