Lovely meal, food was excellent, as was the service. Location was good for us because we were staying over the road for a few days. It's in a small village so in most circumstances it would only be accessible by car. Highly recommended

Was pleased we booked a table, otherwise we'd not have been eating here!Excellent quality food, locally sourced where possible and very tasty. Nice selection on menu; our party of 4 all opted for fish or meat based mains. Haddock particularly good. Portion sizes generous. None of us had room for dessert, but 3 had one anyway! Wine/ale selection great too.Would highly recommend and would suggest booking ahead.

The Allanton Inn and staff are absolutely incredible. We arrived late on the Friday evening and received such a warm welcome. The rooms were gorgeous and clean. The food was amazing, so much better than I was expecting. For lunch I had duck leg, watermelon and feta salad...so good!! All really good value for money as well. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It really is wonderful.

We had lunch here yesterday to celebrate my father-in-law's 79th and son’s 18th birthday and also my in-laws 55th Wedding Anniversary. We were taking my father-in-law out on a rare occasion as he suffers from dementia and we can’t really go out anywhere that far these days.We had our 18 month old daughter with us and she was grumpy because she's teething and was sleepy, she was also making a bit of noise (the odd scream, nothing too extreme I hasten to add). I am deeply sorry to the other guests but Please take note that she's only 18 MONTHS. 😭A tall lady, I think she's the owner gave our daughter a bad look. Soon after she approached us in a rather abrupt manner telling us to take our daughter outside because there were guests complaining. I wouldn't mind if she told us in a kind way but no it was awful and embarrassed us in front of the other guests.I politely asked the young tall guy who served us if we can just eat outside because I can't control an 18 month old baby. Thank you to this guy because he was very kind and respectful to us.We all went out in the garden and ate there. We should have just left but I wouldn't want to ruin my in-law's day because they rarely go out nowadays. It was our treat to them. Then the same lady went outside the door and put the highchair out like banging it. I had the impression that She was really trying to tell us that we weren't welcome there.I just ate half of my burger, gave the other half to my son and asked my husband to take me and my daughter home.I’ve eaten in restaurants all over the world and not once have I been treated like that.I guess if you have young children this is definitely a place to AVOID as you don’t really want to be annoying the other guests and the owner of course.

Beautiful, peaceful, comfortable. The owners are incredibly friendly and kind. I (first-time solo traveler) bumbled my way through every part of my visit from arrival to departure, and they were never anything other than warm and accommodating! Dinner was lovely as well -- get dessert! And the complimentary breakfast options were really above and beyond. Highly recommend.

Excellent rooms, food was stunning with good GF options. Good beers and nearly 40 gins. All the staff were very friendly. Stayed here twice before and will definitely come back again. Definitely recommend it.

Attractive restaurant and bar. Interesting menu featuring local produce from both sides of the Border, well prepared and delicious. Good service. What's not to like?
