Lucky enough to get a table on Friday evening. We had scallops served with crispy black pudding, pea puree and roast tomatoes on vine. All cooked to perfection. This was followed by fillet steak with all the trimmings including a delightful pepper sauce. Steak cooked perfectly and the had cut chips were addictive. A big well done to the friendly staff who were helpful and attentive.

We booked a table last minute for New Year's Day. We have two young children and from the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The staff were wonderful and friendly even dancing with our excited 3 year old and cooing over our baby. The food was delicious and served in excellent time with out feeling rushed. We will definitely be coming again and HIGHLY recommend. Thanks xx

Several in a group stayed at The Back Bull visiting a friend now residing in Lauder. A fantastic hotel where the accommodation, food and hospitality from the staff was beyond reproach. Mandy and Allan who own the hotel were fantastic hosts. Looking forward to next stay and would strongly recommend the hotel to anybody. I have no prior knowledge of the hotel and did not know any staff or the owners before visiting so a genuine review.

What an amazing place and bunch of people. I was on a bike tour to visit my son at university in St Andrews. The weather had been quite bad for a number of days on the way North. Now returning South, I found this hotel by pure chance while cold and wet and caught off guard with the night drawing in. Having called to chance my luck on a last-minute stay, I was greeted by Paul and his team who kindly arranged for the kitchen to stay open late so I could get some hot food inside me. The attention to detail of both the rooms and the staff was phenomenal, resulting in my asking if I could stay another day. Within a short period, they managed to fit me in, resulting in a much needed, welcomed, warm and friendly break. This isn't an area of the UK that I visit often. However, after such a wonderful stay, I am keen to return to the area with my better half, so she too may experience the wonderful service and friendly atmosphere of this Scottish Borders hidden gem. Thank you!

Decided to stay here at short notice while visiting family in Lauder. The hotel was very cosy and modern and maintains a traditional feel based on its location. Staff were very helpful and Mandy the owner was a pleasure to meet. Will indeed plan to stay again next time we come to Lauder.

Honestly the best Roast and Creme Brûlée I have had in a long time. Lamb was beautifully cooked and all the trimmings. Even better than mine. Service, decor and ambience absolutely perfect for a Lazy Sunday and a couple of pints of the black stuff. Perfect’ highly recommend and thank you

We came from the States for a wedding. We missed the Bristol to Edinburgh flight and caught a flight to Newcastle instead with a 2 hour Uber and arrive at 1115PM. We thought it was closed when Allan the general manager and owner comes out beaming and shows us to the room, beautiful room. Then comes and asks if we are hungry and we couldn't resist and then he cooks us curry with naan and rice! He is a former Scottish and English professional footballer, property developer, carpenter and business man. This is his latest adventure and his craftsmanship and attention to detail is impeccable. Perfect location next to the castle and great company. Hospitality defined. He shared a good 90 mins with us and we will never forget it.
